<br />
As a Christian woman who is serious about faith, this part of my journey is to see if Ayurvedic Philosophy can mesh with Christian Principles. So far, so good. <br />
<br />
Ayurveda is a holistic system of medicine that is indigenous to and
widely practiced in India. The word Ayurveda is a Sanskrit term meaning
"science of life." Ayu means "life" or "daily living" and Veda is
"knowing."<br />
<br />
Ayurveda was first recorded in the Vedas, the world's
oldest extant literature. This healing system has been practiced in
daily life for more than 5000 years.<br />
<br />
<br />
One thing that has brought me back to Ayurvedic principles over the years is this underlying philosophy:<br />
<br />
"A basic principle of healing in Ayurveda holds that one may create
balance in the internal forces working in the individual by altering
diet and habits of living to counteract changes in his external
environment"<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
We have been taking a step back to assess this year, last year
and where we should be heading next in the days the Lord has allotted to
us.<br />
<br />
On the vaccine front, unless necessary I will discontinue
studying the negative affects. I am convinced, after untold hours of
study, prayer, thought and more study that there is NOTHING good in
vaccines. At all. Ever. My conclusion and opinion is that they are
Hellborn concoctions designed to destroy your natural i<span class="text_exposed_show">mmune system. I have not found ONE good thing about them in all of the study I have done.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="text_exposed_show">
They have been sold to us, part and parcel, using propaganda, fear
based techniques and ruthless marketing strategies. Entire regulatory
agencies, educational and medical systems are set up to make "vaccinate"
the default. I find NOTHING of God in this. Nothing. At. All. I do
find a vested financial interest for corporations in creating an endless
and captive market of unhealthy people.<br />
<br />
So, I am going to stop
looking at them. If you want to talk to me about vaccines, ask. The
only reason that this vaccine default works is because we have abdicated
much of our child rearing responsibility to state entities who have
much funding from corporations who have a vested interest in the
outcomes of health we currently see in our country and world.<br />
<br />
Please know that to choose to step away from the cage that you are in,
you must accept both the freedom and the responsibility in that
decision. You must refuse to allow your family to be part of the
system. Then you must make decisions on how you now should live.
Please think.... you are stepping away from the national default. What
are you going to replace it with?<br />
<br />
For our family, we are going to
begin looking forward to replacing the default with something else. To
this end, Joey and I are working jointly on two different directions.
Joey is working hard on the Jefferson movement, a constitutional request
(demand) that Northern California either be allowed to become a
separate state or have the representation that was stripped from us by a
court decision be reinstated.<br />
<br />
For me, I am going to begin
studying Ayurvedic health systems. Why Ayurveda? It is the closest to
what I know to be true. That is why. Yes, I will have to be prayerful
as I go forward, but this is the base system that we have been using
casually for years. I am going to begin studying it more in earnest.<br />
<br />
We will also continue to build and grown our family farm with purpose
and intent. This is designed to provide the highest quality nutrition
available to our family. The answer to the overprocessed default in
this country is to build a different system. We are not there yet, but
we work toward that goal.<br />
What we focus on is where we go. I
have focused almost exclusively on the vaccine issue for a good 18
months. There is nothing good to find there. My focus is now shifting
to something that can have positive impact.<br />

Because the battle on the <span class="il">vaccine</span> front continues, I am revisiting the issue of abortions and <span class="il">vaccines</span> and <span class="il">people</span> of <span class="il">faith</span>.
I did this as a series of 7 posts and will just put those posts here in
their entirety. It is long and, to many of you, repetitive. having
said that, please be aware that this is a current issue. You may want
to review the information. </div>
I cannot counsel anyone, but my
heart says that once I am aware of the connection, I cannot justify
participating in the abortion industry in any way.</div>
<div>
Two
things are stirring this up right now. One of them is the book I am
currently reading, "Plague" by Judy Mikovits. This is a discussion of
the presence of retrovirus in the blood and <span class="il">vaccine</span> supply. It is connected to using human and animal tissue. The more we know, the more we know what we don't know</div>
<div>
The other is the debate currently going on locally within the Christian community over whether or not <span class="il">vaccines</span>,
in balance, are good, lifesaving and life giving. I absolutely am on
one side of this debate, weighted down as far as I can go. That does
not mean that there is not another side. </div>

<br />
<span class="il">People</span> of <span class="il">faith</span>,
please hear my heart. Please choose not to be offended, but listen.
If you disagree, please, let's talk or message privately. <br />
<br />
The abortion industry and the <span class="il">vaccine</span> industry are linked together. For me personally, as a person of <span class="il">faith</span>, EVEN IF <span class="il">vaccines</span>
were safe, effective and absolutely did what the pharmaceutical
industry claims WITHOUT ANY side effects EVER ..... For me, I cannot
participate. My children cannot participate. Even if there were no
other issues. <br />
<br />
The Bible does not ever, to my knowledge, justify
child sacrifice. If I am wrong, I am willing to be publicly and
privately corrected. <br />
<br />
The <span class="il">vaccine</span> industry needs human cells for two things that I am aware of. Again, I am absolutely willing to be corrected if I am in error.<br />
<br />
Need one: a medium to grow virus in. (Specifics in a further post)<br />
<br />
Need two: the subject of this paper. Humanized lab animals for testing and maybe other things.<br />
<br />
I
am not going to lie to you. I don't like studying, thinking about or
discussing this. I know a little too much about the process and it
drives me to my knees in sorrow and grief.<br />
<br />
<span class="il">People</span> of <span class="il">faith</span>, Please, please study this. If I am in error, let me know.<br />
<br />
From this paper: "Recent developments and comparative aspects of human immune system mice.<br />
•<br />

•<br />

The
new humanized mouse models with a transplanted human immune system have
a capacity for de novo multilineage human hematopoiesis and generate T
cells, B cells, macrophages, dendritic cells and NK cells. Of the two
current leading humanized mouse models, the hu-HSC model is created by
human hematopoietic stem cell (HSC) engraftment whereas the BLT mouse
model is prepared by co-transplantation of human fetal liver, thymus and
HSC. Humoral and cellular immune responses are seen in both models
after immunization with antigens or infection with hematotropic
pathogens such as EBV, HIV-1 and dengue viruses. While consistent
antigen specific IgM production is seen, IgG responses were found to be
generally feeble which is attributed to inefficient immunoglobulin class
switching. BLT mice permit human HLA restricted T cell responses due to
the autologous human thymus contributing to T cell maturation. Use of
HLA Class I and II transgenic hu-HSC mice recently demonstrated that the
HLA restriction deficiency could be overcome in this model. However,
the overall vigor of the immune responses needs further improvement in
both the models to approach that of the human. Towards this goal,
supplementation with human cytokines and growth factors by transgenesis
to improve human cell reconstitution and their homeostatic maintenance
are beginning to yield improved mouse strains to create more robust
human immune competent mice for immunoprophylaxis studies.<br />

This is intended to be a series.<br />
<br />
Again, <span class="il">people</span> of <span class="il">faith</span>, please hear my heart. This is not fun. It is critically important. <br />
<br />
They
have a term for these humanized lab animals. It is "chimera". Part
animal, part human. Human babies are needed to create these chimeras.
Another term I ran across is Hu-Mice.<br />
<br />
This article describes in
detail how to make chimera. I have read any number of bioethics papers
on this entire process. There are a lot of big words to justify the
practice and a lot of big words to condemn it.<br />
<br />
Nowhere in
scripture can I find a justification for the use of sacrificed children
to make your life or your children's life better.<br />
<br />
We do not belong to this world.<br />
<br />
From
the paper: "Seventeen to 22 week gestational tissues (Advanced
Biosciences Resources) were prepared in a biological safety hood by
cutting the tissues into 1-2 mm3 pieces and placing them in a covered
petri dish on ice in matrigel,” the scientists wrote.<br />
<br />
Each mouse
would get a piece of thymus and a piece of liver taken from the same
17-to-22-week gestational age human baby. The part of the liver not cut
into small pieces and transplanted under the kidney capsules of mice was
cut into small pieces and processed to make stem cells that were
injected into the mice after they underwent their transplantation
surgeries.<br />
<br />
“The tissues were divided to give the surgeons
approximately the same amount of liver tissue as thymus,” the scientists
wrote. “The remainder of the liver was used to isolate hematopoietic
stem cells for injection following recovery from surgery.”<br />
<br />
“A
section of liver sufficient for transplantation was set aside and the
remaining liver was cut into very small pieces, dissecting out any
obvious connective tissue, the gall bladder and the bile duct,” the
scientists said in the part of the paper where they described how they
derived the stem cells from the human fetal liver.<br />
<br />
When the
researchers were ready to transplant the human fetal liver and thymus
fragments into the mice, they formed a sort of surgical assembly line.<br />
<br />
“We used a team of at least four <span class="il">people</span>
to perform surgery, each member at a dedicated station,” the government
researchers wrote. “One member performed prep and anesthesia, one
performed surgery, one closed the incision, and one handled anesthesia
reversal and recovery.<br />
<br />
“An additional team member prepared stem cells in the lab while surgery was being performed,” they said.<br />
<br />
“A
single piece of tissue approximately 1-2 mm3, each from the thymus and
liver, was then pressed into the pocket under the [kidney] capsule using
a similarly altered sequencing pipette,” the scientists said. “Care was
taken not to tear the capsule and to ensure that the tissue was placed
securely in the capsule pocket.”<br />

#3 of 7 - <span class="il">people</span> of <span class="il">Faith</span>, abortions and <span class="il">vaccines</span><br />
<br />
Well, this workshop summary speaks for itself.<br />
<br />
"Investigation
of the human hemato-lymphoid system, host-pathogen relationships,
autoimmunity and transplantation has in the past been limited to in
vitro assays and in vivo large and small animal models. A clear
advantage of large animal models such as dogs, sheep, horses and
non-human primates is their genetic closeness to humans and the large
number of cells that can be obtained. However, ethical, practical and
financial considerations greatly limit their use for research purposes.
Although more genetically distant to humans, small animals such as mice
do share substantial similarities with humans in terms of physiological
parameters and genetic diversity; an added advantage is our ability to
alter their genome almost at will. A wide variety of mouse models have
indeed been instrumental in understanding human physiology, especially
the human immune system. Nonetheless, the differences remaining between
human and mouse are significant enough to warrant the creation of
chimeric mouse models bearing partial or intact human physiological
systems. This is accomplished by engrafting human cells and/or human
tissues into immunodeficient mouse strains incapable of rejecting these
xenogeneic grafts.The majority of the existing models are of mice that
carry a partial or a potentially intact immune system. These models run a
wide gamut, and include mice that express human genes in certain blood
cell types, mice repopulated with human peripheral blood cells and mice
given the complete complement of progenitor cells with the potential to
reconstitute the entire immune system. In addition, experimental systems
using other human tissue grafts have been created in order to study
host/pathogen interactions, vascular regeneration, and transplantation
tolerance. Clearly, combining these humanized tissue graft models with
the models carrying a complete human immune system holds great promise
for the development of improved <span class="il">vaccines</span> and
immunotherapeutics.This workshop provided a general overview of the
state of research in the development of a variety of humanized mouse
models as outlined below.<br />

<br />
#5 of 7 - Christians, <span class="il">vaccines</span> and abortions<br />
<br />
This is intended as a series. <br />
<br />
The original use of sacrificed human babies for the <span class="il">vaccine</span> industry rests on the need to grow human virus on human cells.<br />
<br />
Again,
even if there were NO issues of safety and effectiveness, does
scripture give us guidance on using sacrificed babies to make your or
your children's lives easier, safer or more comfortable?<br />
<br />
If I have misunderstood any part of this, I am open to correction.<br />
<br />
This article goes into the history and use of fetal cells in the <span class="il">vaccine</span> industry. It is a decent overview. To be honest, I actually disagree about their premise of the effectiveness of <span class="il">vaccines</span>, but that is a science based disagreement.<br />
<br />
From the article: "The <span class="il">vaccine</span>
process works by collecting samples of the actual virus, then growing
and altering them in the laboratory to make a weakened strain of the
disease. The weakened strain is put into a serum and administered into
the body (usually by injection). The body’s immune system is more
capable of attacking and destroying the weakened virus, and thus
develops the ability to effectively fight off the actual disease should
the person ever be exposed to it. The advent of <span class="il">vaccines</span>
was a major milestone in medicine, saving millions of lives and saving
many others from the devastating effects of diseases like polio and
diphtheria.<br />
<br />
In order to develop the weakened viral strain, there
must be a medium or “cell culture” to grow it in. The virus invades the
culture cells, feeds off the cell, matures, and multiplies. The cell
cultures are a single type of cell that multiplies itself in a
predictable fashion and can be sustained in a laboratory setting for
years, even decades. These long-lasting cell cultures are called “cell
lines.” The original cells that start these cell lines have been taken
from a wide variety of sources, from monkey embryo and kidney cells, to
chicken and rabbit embryos, and tragically, from aborted human babies.<br />
<br />
The issue of concern is that many common <span class="il">vaccines</span> were developed using cell lines that originally were cells taken from electively aborted babies. The <span class="il">vaccines</span>
themselves do not contain fetal cells, but there are significant
“residual” biological components from the fetal cells that have been
assimilated into the <span class="il">vaccine</span>, including cell proteins and measurable portions of fetal DNA."<br />

__________________________, born __________, ___, 20___, are exercising
our right to a religious waiver on all future childhood <span class="il">vaccinations</span> because we find them to be in extreme violations of our personal religious beliefs.<br />
The following are ways in which these violations manifest themselves in the <span class="il">vaccinations</span> recommended by the Center for Disease Control.<br />
The
use of cells, cellular debris, protein, and DNA from willfully aborted
human children found in Adenovirus, Polio, Dtap/Polio/HiB Combo, Hep A,
Hep A/Hep B Combo, MMR, MMRV Pro Quad, Rabies, Varicella, and the
Shingles <span class="il">vaccines</span> violate the very basic
commands found in Exodus 20:13 and Deuteronomy 5:15 which instructs us
to not murder. The following ingredients were derived from no fewer than
107 human souls who were sacrificed for social reasons and then used in
past and ongoing <span class="il">vaccine</span> research: PER C6,
HEK293, WI-38 (RA 27/3), WI-1, WI-2, WI-3, WI-4, WI-5, WI-6, WI-7, WI-8,
WI-9, WI-10, WI-11, WI-12, WI-13, WI-14, WI-15, WI-16, WI-17, WI-18,
WI-19, WI-20, WI-21, WI-22, WI-23, WI-24, WI-25, WI-26, WI-27, WI-38,
WI-44, and MCR-5 plus many other ingredients obtained from human
children not required to be listed by FDA guidelines. Supporting <span class="il">vaccinations</span> and <span class="il">vaccination</span> developments is an endorsement of the sacrifice of those and the continuing sacrifice of other human souls.<br />
Genesis 4:1, 17 and Jeremiah 1:5 demonstrate that the deceased children used in the aforementioned <span class="il">vaccinations</span>
were recognized by God as human souls from the point of conception in
the same way that we, as parents, recognized our child as a human from
the moment we were aware of his/her presence in his/her mother’s wombs.<br />
Genesis
1:27 - 28, 4:1, 2 Kings 17:17-18, Psalm 22:10-11, 106: 35, 37-38,
113:7-9, 127:3, 139:13-16, Amos 1:13, Matthew 18:1-4, and Matthew
19:13-15 are just a few verses that illustrate the aforementioned
children as blessings from God that are valued and loved by him, their
Creator, in whose image they were created and that their killing is
condemned and causes God's destructive anger to burn against their
murderers and those complicit in those murders.<br />
Exodus 20:13,
Leviticus 18:21 & 20:2-5, Deuteronomy 5:13, 12:30-32, 18:10, 2 Kings
16:3, and Psalm 106:38 illustrate that all child sacrifice is condemned
with no exception clauses allowing for the greater good or public
exception clauses found anywhere in the sacred scriptures.<br />
1
Corinthians 6:19-20 and 10:31 remind us that we are to regard our bodies
a temples of God's Holy Spirit and that we are to honor God, our
Creator and possessor of our very bodies by not defiling them.
Notwithstanding the presence of socially sacrificed human cells and
debris in <span class="il">vaccinations</span>, we firmly believe that
the presence of neurotoxins, hazardous substances, attenuated viruses,
animal cells, foreign DNA, albumin from human blood, carcinogens, and
chemical wastes is in strict violation of our imperative to treat our
bodies as holy temples of the very Spirit of God.<br />
Genesis 9:4,
Leviticus 17:10-11, 17:14, Deuteronomy 12:23, Acts 15:20 and 29 informs
us that blood represents the life force of human and animal species and
that human blood was to be kept pure under all circumstances and free
from contaminants such as animal cells, parts, and blood.<br />
We thank
you for respectfully adhering to our first amendment rights guaranteed
as citizens of the United States of America by her great Constitution
and reinforced on a state level by the fourteenth amendment without
prejudice.<br />

Hopefully you can hear my heart of love in this. I am
not saying any of this to condemn, I am speaking a necessary but
unpleasant truth.<br />
So, for us, question number one on this list of
questions is enough. We don't actually need to go further. We are
simple <span class="il">people</span>.<br />
Our family cannot
knowingly participate in the industry of <span class="il">vaccination</span> and/or abortion.
Unless someone can show me scripturally where it is acceptable to God to
use sacrificed human babies to grow our virus' for <span class="il">vaccinations</span>; to use
sacrificed human babies to turn into lab animals for better testing,
research, development or study.....<br />
We just do not think that it
is ok to sacrifice babies so that our lives can be better, healthier,
more convenient, more comfortable.... I think I will stop here.<br />
*************<br />
<span class="il">Vaccines</span> are a permanent chemical alteration of your child. Please
genuinely research before you vaccinate. Research both sides with
integrity until you are comfortable.<br />
Do not allow laws, pharma
bullies or scare tactics to dissuade your research. Once administered,
the <span class="il">vaccine</span> can never be undone. Make sure you are 100% comfortable with
your decision.<br />
YOU have a responsibility for the child in your care. Choose parenting. Sometimes (always) it is work. Research well.<br />
Some questions to consider in your search for truth:<br />
Was any part of this <span class="il">vaccine</span> grown in human fetal cells acquired
through abortion? If so, is this a problem for you in your <span class="il">faith</span>? Be
prayerful about this important decision.<br />
Is there any mercury in this <span class="il">vaccine</span>?<br />
Is there more than the safety margin of the allowed daily maximum dose
of aluminum in this <span class="il">vaccine</span>? (Daily maximum dose is approximately a
limit of 25 mcg per day OR 3-4mcg per kilogram per day) Dr. Sears has an
outstanding explanation on this.<br />
Are there any other ingredients that you are concerned with?<br />
Would you give this to your child to drink?<br />
Are there any genetically altered ingredients in this <span class="il">vaccine</span> (GMO's)? Is this important to your family?<br />
What are the known potential side affects of this <span class="il">vaccine</span>? (Suggestion, look at the manufacturer insert, not the CDC handout)<br />
Can you access any double blind, placebo based trials showing safety
and efficacy for this <span class="il">vaccine</span>? (Trials against a true placebo, not a
placebo with the adjuvants)<br />
Can you access any double blind,
placebo based trials showing safety and efficacy with multiple doses of
true <span class="il">vaccines</span> together?<br />
Do you have an accurate risk/reward vision? Do you know the risks of both the <span class="il">vaccine</span> AND the childhood ailment?<br />
Can you find natural remedies for the childhood ailments that are proven to be successful?<br />
Can you access accurate damage / death statistics for both the childhood ailment AND potential <span class="il">vaccine</span> injury.<br />
Do you know who is liable if your child is injured or dies as a direct result of the <span class="il">vaccination</span>?<br />
Be purposeful in your choice.<br />

<div class="text_exposed_root text_exposed" id="id_559068a67a3243b51746787">
This post is because of the Supreme Court decision legalizing gay marriage all over the United States. One thing that may have not been considered by many is the amount of hormone disruptors that pregnant women and babies are exposed to and potential consequences. This entire post is geared to the potential damage to baby boys. Baby girls also can have damage, but it is different damage.<br />
<br />
This information is provided for purposes of risk assessment for families. This was a short series that I did on Facebook. I hope it is helpful. <br />
<br />
#1 - Appropriate for this week. Not making judgments. Just providing information.<br />
This study covers the problem of mercury exposure in male ibises. It causes many odd behaviors in the Ibises population. From the article: "Birds exposed to any mercury displayed courtship behaviour less often
than controls and were also less likely to be approached by females when
they did. As the level of mercury exposure increased, so did the degree
and persistence of homosexual pairing. Males that engaged in homosexual
parings were also less likely to switch partners from year to year,
which Frederick says ibises tend to do if they have been unsuccessful in
mating during their first breeding season."<br />
<br />
Some of the main mercury exposures in the United States today in utero: Amalgam fillings, vaccinations and
fish consumption by mama. Also, living downwind of a coalfired plant or
exposure to medical waste.<br />
<br />
Mama... be cautious of your little boys
developing systems. Trace amounts of mercury from Mama during pregnancy
can be damaging for a lifetime.<br />
<br />
One of the main mercury exposures before a child is two years old is vaccinations. Although it is supposed to have been removed from all childhood vaccinations, it is still listed as being in several in trace amounts. Very, very tiny amounts are all that is necessary for endocrine disruption.<br />
<br />
<div class="text_exposed_show">
One of the other problems associated with permanently changed sexual tendencies in
boys is unfermented soy, exposure either in utero or from formula.<br />

<span class="_3m6-">From the article:
"Male infants are also adversely affected by phytoestrogens. Male
babies undergo a testosterone surge during the first few months of life,
when testosterone levels may be as high as those of an adult male.</span><br />
<span class="_3m6-"><br /></span>
<span class="_3m6-">During this period, baby boys are programmed to express male
characteristics after puberty, not only in the development of their
sexual organs and other masculinity traits, but also in setting patterns
in the brain characteristic of male behavior. Flooding his system with
female hormones during this time can have severe ramifications on his
development, including potentially smaller testes and significantly
reduced testosterone levels........</span><br />
<span class="_3m6-"><br /></span>
<span class="_3m6-">.........Nearly 20 percent of
U.S. infants are now fed soy formula, but as demonstrated in the
featured study, the estrogens in soy can cause serious long-term harm to
your baby's sexual development and reproductive health. It's important
to realize that feeding your baby soy formula is like giving her an
estimated four to five birth control pills' worth of estrogen every day.
Infants fed soy formula have up to 20,000 times the amount of estrogen
in circulation as those fed other formulas!.......</span><br />
<span class="_3m6-"><br /></span>
<span class="_3m6-">......Aside
from harmful endocrine disrupters, soy infant formula can also contain
over 1,000 percent more aluminum than conventional milk-based formulas.
Aluminum is a potent neurotoxin that has been implicated in the
development of Alzheimer's disease and other brain disorders. According
to a study in Pediatrics, the official journal of the American Academy
of Pediatrics4:</span><br />
<span class="_3m6-"><br /></span>
<span class="_3m6-">"Aluminum is now being implicated as
interfering with a variety of cellular and metabolic processes in the
nervous system and in other tissues."</span><br />
<span class="_3m6-"><br /></span>
<span class="_3m6-">But that's not all. Many
soy foods also have toxic levels of manganese. Soy formula contains up
to 80 times more manganese than is found in human breast milk, and
according to recent research, high concentrations of manganese can lead
to brain damage in infants and altered behaviors in adolescents.5"</span><br />

phytoestrogens and male reproduction. These studies have spanned three
generations and have taken into account both the human and the rat model
of endocrine function. In summary, males exposed to genistein have a
shorter ano-genital distance and testis size, and delayed preputial
separation. Perinatal exposure to genistein also contributes to
long-term dysfunction in reproductive behavior. Adult male rats exposed
to genistein are less likely to mount, intromit and ejaculate during
mating tests. Male rats exposed to genistein also have lower
testosterone concentrations in adulthood. Perinatal genistein exposure
resulted in transient and lasting alterations in masculinization of the
reproductive system.</span></span><br />

reproductive health of male offspring is to avoid foods and chemicals
that act as estrogen mimics. This starts with mothers, prenatally
limiting their exposure to estrogen-containing products in their diets,
from birth control pills and from other sources such as pesticides.
During pregnancy, the mother’s diet should be quite restrictive of
phytoestrogens and therefore of soy-based products. Once the child is
born, the best form of nutrition which can be given to the child is
breast milk. While breast feeding, mothers should continue to avoid
birth control pills and soy foods. Most importantly, soy-based infant
formula should be avoided. These formulas, despite common claims to
safety, are dangerous to the reproductive health of the male

This post is a series of Facebook posts. It is too difficult to find things on there, though... so here they are. I will add another portion later covering the bacteria that is needed to help resolve the peanut allergy problem.<br />

<br />
If you or someone you know has a peanut allergy, this article covers some of the possible reasons.<br />
There is some promising research which shows a bacteria present in many raw milk cultures may lower the risk of anaphylaxis.<br />
<br />
It is important to consider all potential reasons... No matter how uncomfortable it makes you.<br />
From the article: "But with the newfound research, the medical
profession will do what they always must do – bury it. Protect the
companies. So no money will be ever allocated from NIH to study the
obvious connection between vaccine excipients and peanut allergy. That
cannot happen, primarily because it would require a control group – an
unvaccinated population. And that is the Unspoken Forbidden."</div>

<br />
So... From this excellent article... this is what every man, woman and
child needs to know about vaccines: "Vaccine manufacturers do not have
to disclose all vaccine ingredients to consumers.<br />
<br />
It is important
to note that in 1973, when peanut allergies were still relatively rare,
a study was conducted on the effects of peanut excipients in vaccines.
Not long after it was published; however, government regulators decided
that vaccine manufacturers no longer had to label peanut excipients in
vaccines, which means pediatricians, parents, and others who wanted to
avoid peanut excipients for safety reasons could no longer effectively
do so.<br />
<br />
“What is listed today in the Physicians Desk Reference in
each vaccine section is not the full formula,” adds Dr. O’Shea.
“Suddenly that detailed information was proprietary: the manufacturers
must be protected. They only had to describe the formula in general.”<br />
<br />
Since that time, peanut allergies have only gotten more prevalent and
more severe, and the vast majority of the population has no idea that
peanut excipients still used in vaccines are largely responsible. Will
this ever change? Only if government regulators and medical authorities
suddenly develop consciences will this monumental medical fraud be
widely exposed and properly addressed.<br />
<br />
In his book <i>The Doctor
Within</i>, Dr. Tim O’Shea argues that vaccines are largely responsible for
both the advent and increased prevalence of peanut allergy, noting that
many vaccines and even antibiotic drugs contain excipients derived from
peanut oil. Since it is a relatively inexpensive oil to produce, refined
peanut oil became widely adopted as an excipient of choice in the
production of vaccines during the 1960s, and it is still widely used
today for this purpose."<br />

still looking, I believe it is grandfathered in as law. As far as I can

From the FDA review : "Based on these considerations, the Select

information on coconut oil, peanut oil, and oleic acid that
demonstrates, or suggests reasonable grounds to suspect, a hazard to the

Similarly, trade secrets are also exempt under the British Freedom of

obligation to label peanut oil are in conflict with laws protecting
trade secrets. Full disclosure of excipients was not and continues not
to be general practice in the US or Canada.” [1]"</div>

From the article: "It would be nice to think that experts who sit on
the committees that approve vaccine safety and licensing would make note
of the rise in allergies to these foods in the general population, and
be able to make the link that the development of these allergies is due
to the body's immune rejection of ingested food proteins resulting from a
prior immune reaction to injected vaccine food proteins. It would also
be nice to think that at least the proper safety studies would be done
to see if the injection of these food proteins manifests in a clinically
significant way in humans. Many clinicians, and parents, are already
seeing this connection. I believe, however, that these experts are not
doing their due diligence, and are looking right past the evidence.
There seems to be a concerted effort to avoid doing the studies that
would solidify our scientific knowledge. Until then, I support the
precautionary principle."<br />

And local honey. Yes, yes... I know... expensive beyond belief but
there you go. (/sarc)<br />

From the article: "For so many, the peanut

hence the name. Do your own research."<br />

From
me: If I had a child with a peanut allergy, I would exercise a
skeptical amount of overabundant caution regarding vaccinations.
Certainly I would research it.<br />
<br />
I have spent several hours
looking at the "pro-vaccine" sites - especially regarding peanut allergy
issues. All they seem to have is "it is not listed on the ingredients
or in the process"...... and "they are not going to put something in
that is not listed". Since I believe the first statement is irrelevant
and the second statement to be untrue, I would be very very cautious
regarding vaccines.<br />
<br />
I am studying the best way to reduce the
reaction to peanut allergies. The heart of this problem may be resolved
with a bacteria commonly found in cultured raw milk products. Still
researching though.<br />
Food allergies and vaccines .... and a
possible road to (either partial or complete) recovery using lacto
fermented foods is generally the answer.<br />
<br />
From the article: " research published in Heather Fraser’s 2011 book,
The Peanut Allergy Epidemic, illuminates the vaccine connection much
more specifically. Peanut oil is used as a vaccine excipient. And, this
usage has become increasingly widespread until, by the 1980s, it was the
preferred excipient. Prior to 1980, peanut oil was used occasionally,
or not at all.<br />
<br />
An excipient is defined as a component other than
the original medication. This is a problem with vaccines, because it is
so difficult to define the original “medication” in a vaccine. In
general, excipients are the substances added to preserve, stabilize or
otherwise dilute the viral antigens.3<br />
Peanut oil (even the most
refined) still contains some traces of intact peanut proteins. Intact
proteins do not belong in the human body. The digestive system is
designed to break down these antigenic substances into peptides and
amino acids, non-allergenic building blocks of proteins, which your body
then uses to build tissue.<br />
<br />
This contamination with intact,
allergy inducing proteins is why doctors are directed to inject vaccines
intramuscularly, rather than intravenously in hopes of lessening the
chance of reactions. However, it is obvious from the epidemic of peanut
allergies that this measure has been inadequate..........<br />
<br />
........So, our children are being injected with a substance that can
cause life-threatening allergic reactions, and what was the government’s
response? The first study of peanut allergies that focused on the use
of peanut oil in vaccines was conducted in 1973. Soon afterwards, and as
a result of that study, manufacturers were no longer required to
disclose all of the ingredients in their vaccines, thereby limiting
their liability. The detailed information became “proprietary” and the
precise ingredient list was no longer disclosed.<br />
<br />
However,
childhood vaccination has become the sacred cow of pediatrics. Many of
the parents in my practice, who do not wish to have their children
vaccinated, are regularly abused by health care professionals, both
doctors and nurses.<br />

On
the subject of Peanut allergies, peanut oil as an adjuvant and vaccine
labeling: Please exercise an abundance of caution in vaccinating if
your child has peanut allergies.<br />
<br />
So.... on to the labeling for
vaccines. The question is "can vaccine ingredients and processes be
protected by trade secrets?" I always find if you just go step, step,
step, step and not shy away from what you find, eventually the truth
becomes known.<br />
<br />
My steps took me to several court cases between
big companies (two equal adversaries). So far... trade secrets are
alive and well in the pharma industry. As I am traveling this path, I
see hints that as long as the FDA approves it, trade secrets rule, even
on labeling. However, confirming that knowledge is further down the
road for another day.<br />
<br />
So, from two mega-giant pharma corporations fighting it out in court over the chickenpox vaccination:<br />
<br />
From the records: "In the present case, Merck's initial disclosure
described its entire process as a protectable trade secret. Then,
following discovery, it narrowed that broad trade secret claim to fit
the particular aspects of the production process Merck claimed were
misappropriated by SmithKline. SmithKline was initially put on notice
through Merck's broad disclosure but was subsequently informed well in
advance of trial of the specific aspects of the trade secret Merck
believed SmithKline misappropriated. It cannot be said SmithKline was
prejudiced in any way........<br />
<br />
......The term trade secret
encompasses a process that “[d]erives independent economic value, actual
or potential, from not being generally known to, and not being readily
ascertainable by proper means by, other persons who can obtain economic
value from its disclosure or use; and is [ ] the subject of efforts
that are reasonable under the circumstances to maintain its secrecy.” 6
Del. C. § 2001(4). Whether the trade secrets were generally known or
readily ascertainable and whether Merck took reasonable precautions to
protect their secrecy is a question of fact. See Injection Research
Specialists, Inc. v. Polaris Indus., L.P., Fed. Cir., 168 F.3d 1320, 48
U.S.P.Q.2d 1719, 1726 (Aug. 13, 1998). Such a finding is reviewed for a
determination of whether it is supported by substantial evidence, see
Collins v. Burke, Del.Supr., 418 A.2d 999, 1004 (1980), and is not
clearly erroneous. See Levitt v. Bouvier, Del.Supr., 287 A.2d 671, 673
(1972).<br />

to harmful organisms, irritants, damaged tissue or toxins. In a
healthy, well-nourished body, this natural response to this temporary
problem should result in a
system-wide "all clear" within a few days or weeks.<br />
<br />
Food, stress
levels and ongoing toxin overloads are some of the primary decision
makers in whether your body uses inflammation, fever and other healing
pathways for a short season, then subsides or whether your body goes
into a state of chronic inflammation which brings in another level of
trouble and poor health. <br />
<br />
Sadly, we often look at health
problems as something to be gotten rid of, not a warning signal that
there is something amiss in our body, our environment or our mental
state (meaning staying in a place of high stress and not addressing the
cause).<br />
<br />
Diets high in sugar, saturated fat and overprocessed foods can spur inflammation. This can cause
overactivity in the immune system, which can lead to joint pain,
fatigue, and damage to the blood vessels, which is often step one, two and three in a downward spiral of poor health. <br />
<br />
The typical Western diet – high in processed foods, refined starches,
added sugars and animal fats and low in fruits, vegetables, whole grains
and omega-3 fatty acids – fuels inflammation, according to a 2006 paper
in the <i>Journal of the American College of Cardiology</i>. <br />
<br />
Choosing
to apply toxic substances to our skin, hair and environment, breathing
in toxic fumes, can all exacerbate the problem of inflammation as your
system must be in overdrive all of the time. Smog, pollution, dust, mold.... all problematic.</div>
<div>
Living in a world of chronic stress... aka "the modern world" also brings its own set of damage inducing inflammation. Lack of sleep, lack of quiet, lack of community, lack of being "unplugged" EVER..... some of the modern stresses so many of us deal with.</div>
<div>
Perhaps
today, make a different choice. Choose to shut off some of the
stress. Choose to stay away from the chemical bath that the modern
world offers us. Look at your toothpaste, your shampoo, your soap, your
lotion, your cleaning products. If you would not eat them, don't put them on your skin or breathe their fumes.
Choose to eat wholesome, nutrient-dense, slow cooked, soaked, REAL food
today. Visit a farmer's market, talk to the small farmers about what they do to produce food. They are almost universally knowledgeable. Embark on a balanced exercise program, play, turn off and tune out for a while. Allow your body to settle down and come to a more natural
place.</div>
<div>
<br />
Foods, spices, savory things and oils are a
potent, long-term way to activate your immune system into a proper
response and to provide a proper level of healing and long-term vibrant
health. The lists below are certainly not an exhaustive list, just some
suggestions<br />
.</div>
<i>Some of the foods which can help minimize
chronic inflammation</i>, please note: This is assuming that the foods are organic, non GMO and
properly prepared in a nutrient dense fashion:<br />
</div>
Avocado,
dark leafy greens, soaked walnuts and almonds, sweet and hot peppers,
olives, olive oil, coconut oil, sweet potatoes, beets, beet greens,
unsweetened dark berries, cacao, red grapes, broccoli, tart apples,
citrus, chia seeds, red cabbage, celery, whole, soaked grains, fermented
foods and liquids, high quality, minimally processed sea or harvested salt, wild caught salmon, grass fed beef, poultry.<br />
</div>
<i>Some of the spices and savory things which can help with chronic inflammation:</i><br />
</div>
Turmeric, ginger, basil, onion, garlic, oregano, mint, cumin, cilantro, parsley, rosemary, black peppercorn, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg.<br />
</div>
<i>Some of the oils which can help with chronic inflammation:</i><br />
</div>
Oregano, fennel, clove, thyme, wintergreen, myrrh, frankincense, camomile, tea tree oil, lavender.</div>
Remember,
this is just a starting place. Primarily it is important to remember
that what we eat, breathe and put onto our skin is what fuels our body.
Give it good fuel. Avoid fuel that clogs up the system. Go simple, go
clean, go vibrantly healthy.<br />
</div>
Blessings</div>

<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><i>Cream Nut Caramels</i></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<i><br />
</i></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<i>3/4 cup pecans</i></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<i>2 cups heavy cream</i></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<i>1-1/2 cups granulated sugar</i></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<i>1/4 cup light brown sugar</i></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<i>1 cup brown rice syrup</i></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<i>1/4 cup butter</i></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<i>1/4 teaspoon salt</i></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<i>1 teaspoon vanilla</i></div>
<br />
Measure all ingredients before you begin.<br />
<br />
Line an 8-inch square pan with parchment and butter it generously. Set aside.<br />
<br />
Using a small saucepan, heat the heavy cream until warm.<br />
<br />
Remove 1 cup of the warm cream. Place it into a heavy 4-quart saucepan. Add the sugars and rice syrup to the cream in the 4 quart saucepan. Heat on medium for about 5 minutes, stirring with a wooden spoon until the mixture begins to boil. Add the remaining cream very slowly so the boiling does not stop. Cook about 5 minutes more.<br />
<br />
Place a candy thermometer into the saucepan and heat to 230 degrees. Lower the heat to prevent scorching. Add the butter about 1 tablespoon - don't get legalistic, just put it in a bit at a time to keep your temperature right - and continue heat to 245 degrees.<br />
<br />
Remove the candy from the heat and stir in the salt, vanilla and chopped pecans. Pour the mixture into the prepared pan. Allow to set up at room temperature until firm. Cut into 1 inch squares.<br />
<br />
Yield: 64 1-inch pieces<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Option One: cut into squares, dip into chocolate, sprinkle with high quality salt. <br />
Option Two: Pour over granola, squish down and make granola/caramel bars!Cindyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12945038014634144038noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3855830304354279442.post-31468314761577732192014-10-15T17:59:00.003-07:002014-10-15T17:59:57.605-07:00Pine Needle TeaOne of our families favorite remedies for any type of cold, lung congestion or viral infection of any kind is Pine Needle Tea. I found this remedy in an old, old, OLD book on natural remedies that I picked up at a thrift store. We have found it incredibly useful.<br />
<br />
I would very probably use pine needle tea liberally if I had ANY virus.<br />
<br />
So, in a bullet point list, everything I know about Pine Needle Tea: <br />
<ul>
<li>It is very cheap (free :)</li>
<li>It is easy to make</li>
<li>It is delicious </li>
<li>Don't drink it if you are pregnant or nursing. Really.</li>
<li>It is full of Vitamin A and C (in a natural form so everything surrounding them is there, complete)</li>
<li>It seems to help your eyes </li>
<li>It is an expectorant (if you drink too much it dries your nose out. Not my favorite)</li>
<li>Our favorite is sugar pine (the one with the shorter needles)</li>
<li>You can put pine needles in your bathtub for various ailments.</li>
</ul>
Here is more detailed information from <a href="http://davesgarden.com/guides/articles/view/3126/" target="_blank">Dave's Garden</a>. I found it by a simple google search and his research appears to be solid. No need for me to reinvent the wheel. Just go there if you want more concrete info.<br />
<br />
Here is how we make it:<br />
<ol>
<li>Pick pine needles</li>
<li>cut them into smallish pieces</li>
<li>put in container and pour boiling water over them</li>
<li>cover and steep about ten minutes</li>
<li>strain </li>
<li>add raw, local honey if necessary</li>
<li>drink </li>
</ol>

<br />
<span style="border-collapse: collapse; color: #222222; font-family: arial,sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">This
is an update of an old blog. Just a personal note: In this world of
no borders, odd diseases and unpleasant viruses taking up residence in
our personal space... The type of lifestyle we finally settled on is
still the best protection you can have. No matter the situation, a
healthy gut and an active biome is the best protection you can have. </span><br />
<br />
<span style="border-collapse: collapse; color: #222222; font-family: arial,sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">A great, great way to begin is to spend time on Donna Schwenk's <a href="http://www.culturedfoodlife.com/" target="_blank">blog.</a>
Cultured Food Life is the name of her new book and she has done a great
community service (IMHO) in educating so many people and giving a great
starting point. Her book is available on her blog or any of the other
myriad of ways we find it. Here is the <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Cultured-Food-Life-Delicious-Probiotic/dp/1401942822" target="_blank">Amazon link to Cultured Food Life.</a></span><br />
<span style="border-collapse: collapse; color: #222222; font-family: arial,sans-serif; font-size: 13px;"><br /></span>
<span style="border-collapse: collapse; color: #222222; font-family: arial,sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">And
so... the rest is what I wrote about 18 months ago. I see no reason to
change my opinion based on current events. There is one addition on
the "Do Not" list about antibacterial products. I list it as number 1.
Don't kill your warriors.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span style="font-size: small;"><b><i><span style="border-collapse: collapse; color: #222222; font-family: arial,sans-serif;">A SUMMARY OF WHAT WE HAVE LEARNED THUS FAR</span></i></b></span></h3>
<span style="border-collapse: collapse; color: #222222; font-family: arial,sans-serif; font-size: 13px;"><br /></span>
<span style="border-collapse: collapse; color: #222222; font-family: arial,sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">I
just wanted to put a quick reference here on the top of my
long-neglected blog. This is a summary of some of the things that we
have explored together in this blog. Please remember, this is my
OPINION (note IMHO - In My Humble Opinion really means everything on
this blog) . Always do your own research, believe in something yourself
- don't just take someone else's word for it. If you use the search
feature, you can find a lot of research and recipes throughout this and
many other blogs. This can give you information to make up your own
mind..... but you should continue researching.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="border-collapse: collapse; color: #222222; font-family: arial,sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">Don't
attempt to make too many changes at once unless you are in a crisis.
Take your time. Don't throw your family under the bus. Keep rational
with any changes. Include the kids in WHY you are changing. Have some
fun - try a couple of new things. Try them again if they are good for
you. Don't give up. </span><br />
<br />
<span style="border-collapse: collapse; color: #222222; font-family: arial,sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">Be healthy and well! </span><br />
<br />
<span style="border-collapse: collapse; color: #222222; font-family: arial,sans-serif; font-size: 13px;"><u><i><b>ADD THIS INTO YOUR LIFE:</b></i></u></span><br />
<ol>
<li style="margin-left: 15px;"> Eat a lot of good fats (coconut oil, olive oil, butter from pastured cows, cod liver oil, etc.) A <i>minimum </i>of 2 tablespoons per day.</li>
<li style="margin-left: 15px;">Drink raw milk from pastured cows if it
is within the realm of possibility. Add raw cream to your coffee. A
lot. Enjoy it thoroughly.</li>
<li style="margin-left: 15px;">Eat something lacto-fermented every day.
Live sauerkraut is probably one of the most wonderful things you can
do for your body long term. Kim Chee is awesome. Discover everything
lacto-fermented. Make up something and give it a try.</li>
<li style="margin-left: 15px;"> Eat pastured eggs from a local source if
it is within the realm of possibility. The yolks should be bright
orange. Can you have chickens where you are? A backyard chicken coop
is not a lot of work.</li>
<li style="margin-left: 15px;"> Drink something live with enzymes every
day. (Kombucha tea, Kefir, Apple Cider Vinegar, Coconut Vinegar -
something along those lines.)</li>
<li style="margin-left: 15px;">Eat grass fed protein (beef, chicken, pork)</li>
<li style="margin-left: 15px;">Soak all grains, nuts and beans. This
means sourdough bread and soaking and drying nuts. Beans, rice and
lentils, of course, should be soaked with a bit of whey or apple cider
vinegar and the water drained off before cooking. Do you have a crock
pot? Do you cook much? Most of this is not hard and you do it ahead
of time. I do a lot on weekends and coast through overfull weeks. Make
soaked granola. Have fun!</li>
<li style="margin-left: 15px;">Eat cultured and organic milk products
(yogurt, sour cream, cream cheese). Add kefir in some form to your
diet EVERY DAY. There are so many good and easy recipes.</li>
<li style="margin-left: 15px;">Make bone broth. Have some several
times a week. Cook beans or rice or soup in it or drink it like a
tea. Dirt cheap and easy.</li>
<li style="margin-left: 15px;">Exercise 20 minutes per day. Frankly,
yoga and pilates with some aerobics and weight training are almost the
best thing for long term. Honestly, "The Biggest Loser" has some of
the best workout DVD's for at home that I have found. $9 at Wal Mart.</li>
<li style="margin-left: 15px;">Find a holistic doctor or chiropractor if
it is possible. The way we often practice medicine is criminal
(IMHO). Will not rant here. :)</li>
<li style="margin-left: 15px;">Go organic. Go local. Go fresh. Fruits, vegetables, everything. There is a host of reasons outside of the chemical thing.</li>
<li style="margin-left: 15px;">Take a good, food based multi-vitamin
that is in powder or liquid form. Don't waste your money on pills that
are shaped up with binders and fillers. Most of it just goes right
through you. We use "All-One" Senior formula. We take it in the
morning with a little Kombucha tea and juice. There are other really
wonderful choices.</li>
</ol>
<br />
<u><i><b>REMOVE THIS FROM YOUR LIFE:</b></i></u><br />
<ol>
<li style="margin-left: 15px;">Do not use antibacterial products on or
in your body. They kill off your biome (the web of healthy bacteria
that works symbiotically with our bodies inside and outside to provide
bacterial warriors against nasty bacteria, virus, pathogens, or other unpleasant organisms.)<br />
</li>
<li style="margin-left: 15px;"> Anything made from GMO's. They are
evil beyond belief (IMHO). It is best to not put stuff into your body
that might cause problems. You have a "bad blast" and your gut can be
ruined. Just sayin' </li>
<li style="margin-left: 15px;">ANYTHING that has soy in it. Men should
NEVER EVER EVER EVER drink soy milk or eat soy. It messes with your
manhood. Women pregnant with boys should NEVER include soy in their
diet. Boy babies should NEVER drink formula made from soy (almost the
only thing available) The ONLY exception is a properly lacto-fermented
soy sauce, in moderation.</li>
<li style="margin-left: 15px;">Anything hydrogenated, fractionated, or
something you cannot pronounce. Read all labels. This basically
eliminates about 80% of processed foods (which are dead and rob your
body of life anyway)</li>
<li style="margin-left: 15px;">Cereal that has been extruded (is it in a shape? It has been extruded - stick to soaked granola. super easy to make.)</li>
<li style="margin-left: 15px;">High levels of stress. The B vitamins will help with this.</li>
<li style="margin-left: 15px;">Grains, nuts and seeds that have not been soaked.</li>
<li style="margin-left: 15px;">Get some of the sugar out of your life. </li>
<li style="margin-left: 15px;">Any milk product that has been
homogenized. A gentle pasteurization is ...... ok..... but raw-non
homogenized is better. If it is homogenized, treat it like something
nasty.</li>
<li style="margin-left: 15px;">Avoid like the plague anything that has
High Fructose Corn Syrup in it. It also goes by hfcs now. Don't touch
the stuff. It is nasty for your liver and your insides and almost
impossible to eliminate.<br />
</li>
</ol>
There, see. That is not so bad. Just do all of that and get
back to me in 10 years. You will have tons of energy, feel great and

Anyone following health news lately has to be concerned. Enterovirus 68 (and childhood paralysis) and Ebola seems to be a current thread of our national conversation. The potential of death, debilitation or long term disease speaks to many of our worst fears. The lack of effective administrative / medical solutions makes those fears grow. I have been looking to the past to see what our family can do to protect ourselves from these nasty things.<br />

<br />
I found a great page that ties in several articles from the late 30's / early 40's from the scientist who was successful at giving a rabbit polio. It also has the basis for his research and his conclusions. <br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.seleneriverpress.com/historical-archives/all-archive-articles/246-the-low-carb-diet-that-prevented-polio" target="_blank">The diet that prevented polio</a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
From the article: </div>
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
“One of the puzzling characteristics of polio,” Dr. Sandler said
yesterday, “has been its prevalence in warm weather. Many people cut
down on protective protein foods—such as meat, fish and poultry—because
of a mistaken idea that a ‘light’ diet is better for them in warm
weather. And they increase consumption of cooling foods and
beverages—most of them heavily sweetened. It is this increase in
consumption of sugar that produces a lowering of blood sugar and thereby
a lowering of the body’s resistance to the polio virus and other
diseases.” </blockquote>
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
"His theory is two-fold—he believes he has found a major cause for
polio in humans, and he believes that preventive measures are simple,
easy, and quickly applicable.</blockquote>
<br />
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
Dr. Sandler believes that the major cause is the low blood sugar in
the human body, caused, paradoxically as it may sound, by eating too
much sweets and starchy food.</blockquote>
<br />
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
The preventive measures? Cut out foods containing sugars and starches.</blockquote>
<br />
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
In 24 hours, according to Dr. Sandler, the body can build up
sufficient resistance to the polio virus to prevent disease. The diet
would have to continue, of course.</blockquote>
<br />
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
“The crisis is here and hours have become precious,” he said. “I have
been impelled to bring this directly to the newspapers because of my
profound conviction that, through community cooperation and general
acceptance of a diet low in sugars and starches, this epidemic can be
got under control in about two weeks time.</blockquote>
<br />
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
“I am willing to state without reserve that such a diet, strictly
observed, can build up in 24 hours time a resistance in the human body
sufficiently strong to combat the disease successfully. The answer lies
simply in maintaining a normal blood sugar.”</blockquote>
<br />
This is really, really great information.<br />

<br />
It needs to be added that lacto fermented foods bring an entire different level of protection. Small amounts of milk kefir, kombucha and fermented veggies build an amazing defense system in your gut... your first line of defense. There is much old and current information available and this is something that has been discussed quite a bit here. BUT here is a great blog post that might be helpful. Donna also has a new book out that is chock full of great recipes. I have one myself and have given a lot away :)<br />

<h2>
</h2>
<h2>
<span class="null"></span></h2>
<span class="null">A question that has been bubbling in me recently... "WHAT are the fruits of the Spirit in MY life?" Because we are known by our fruit, both here on earth and above in Heaven. This picture represents what I strive for regularly. This was a recent "gut check" for me and one that has been a wrestling place. These have not been the fruits showing up in my life. <br />
<br />
Many of you know that I experienced a Bell's Palsy episode a coupe of years ago. It recently flared its ugly head again. Here are my thoughts on addressing this issue in my world. (IMHO... It is always, always, always the best thing to do to begin by getting right with God, no matter what your issue is)<br />
<br />
Remember that I am not in any way a medical professional. This is just what I did and continue to do to wrestle with this health issue. Really, this is the resolution and the end of a lot of steps. Please know that all along the way I have had wonderful counsel from a naturopath, a chiropractor and a massage therapist. If you are in pain with your skeleton, begin with a good chiropractor. If you have gut imbalance issues, begin with a good naturopathic doctor. A good counselor can help resolve emotional issues or mental issues. You may need to begin with a good massage therapist to deal with muscular issues. Please be open to asking for help and guidance. This list is where I ended up. Please know that I began with good professional help. <br />
<br />
This is not addressing a Bell's Palsy situation
that is caused by trauma or injury.<br />
<br />
<br />
So, the causative / problematic areas to be addressed:<br />
<br />
1) Gut imbalance<br />
2) Emotional, physical, mental or spiritual stress<br />
<br />
<br />
These first two (either/or/both) can then begin a chain reaction which can be triggered by:<br />
<br />
3)
overreaction to neurotoxin exposure (pesticides, possibly GMO's...
still researching... corrupted fats, chemical overload in our food or
body products, some parma stuff, other neurotoxic things.<br />
<br />
4) Opportunistic virus which acts very, very oddly<br />
<br />
This
in turn leads to a swelling in the affected area (in the case of Bell's
Palsy, the inner ear ... other diseases are the basically the same
process but different parts of the body affected). This brings us to
the next phase.<br />
<br />
5) This swelling can cause the myelin sheath (The
fatty substance that covers and protects nerves is an extremely
simplified explanation) to be damaged or degraded, especially if the
original condition is not corrected quickly. A further problem is
lesions, but this does not usually occur in Bell's Palsy specifically.<br />
<br />
6)
For reasons of which I am unclear, this chain of events almost always
pulls our body physically out of alignment. This needs corrected by a
competent chiropractor as quickly as possible. Massage therapy in
conjunction to the physical adjustment may also be very, very helpful.<br />
SO, my personal steps to allow healing of my original episode and subsequent flare ups....<br />
<br />
1)
Recognize that there is probably an underlying emotional issue
bringing problems to your body. It is necessary to deal with this.
Depending on your world view, this can be accomplished by prayer and
submission to God, inner healing, EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) or
other recognition and healing process.<br />
<br />
2) Make VERY SURE that my
gut flora, my mouth flora and my skin flora is healthy and active. This
involves any good Phase 1 diet for a season while AT THE SAME TIME
adding a lot of great fats from the whole spectrum (short, mid and long
chain fatty acids) and a LOT of fermented foods (sauerkraut or other
cultured veggies, kombucha and kefir... there may be others... these are
my base.<br />
Following these two steps should bring you to a place of:<br />
<br />
3) neutralized pH and a gut that has a healthy population of bacteria (and your skin and your mouth)<br />
<br />
4) rest and calm emotionally<br />
<br />
This then opens the door for my final steps of healing:<br />
<br />
5)
Chiropractic adjustment. For me personally this usually involves
adjustment of my atlas, sometimes my upper back, and recently my foot. I
personally expect to go for 3-4 sessions over about a six week period
to ensure that everything is stable. The first time this happened to me
it was more like 2-3 times per week for 3-4 weeks.<br />
<br />
6) A good
chiropractor will have available some low level energy or laser or
electrical device which should bring relief to nerve endings that are
going haywire and causing a lot of pain and distress.<br />
<br />
7) A good massage therapist working hand in hand with the chiropractor may speed all of this up considerably.<br />
<br />
8) Begin (or continue) an appropriate exercise program. Get out in the sunshine and walk or jog or run, play an active game... but also add some good, structured exercise program.<br />
<br />
Hopefully this is helpful to you.<br />
<br />
Blessings<br />

Prep by shredding the cabbage (reserve the outer leaves for the top),
carrots, beets, jalapenos and onions. I use a french Fry blade on the
food processor to get a nice, big, uniform size. Make sure that the
cabbage is at least half of the total. Don't shred the beets and
carrots too small or they ferment too quickly. <br /> <br /> Next, mix
these in a large container with about 1 tablespoon of salt per medium
head of cabbage. Throw a few more tablespoons in for the other stuff
too. Add the whey. Add the spices and begin mixing.<br /> <br /> I like to give quite a bit of time to this process and allow the flavors to get to know each other and taste as I go.<br /> <br />
After this process is working, add your other greens, zest your lime
and your ginger, into the mix and hand chop your more delicate greens
and anything else you want in there. Remember to taste as you go. You
will notice that I am unable to give proportions. I just don't have
them. I know that you do not need to have so much salt that you cannot
eat it and it is good to use what is available to you.<br /> <br /> Pack
this into your container. Use some non-clorinated water if necessary to
have enough liquid to get everything under liquid. Use one tablespoon
of salt per quart of water. <br /> <br /> Use the reserved outer layer of
leaves and then a plate to push everything down under liquid. Use
something heavy to hold the plate down.<br /> <br /> Now just keep it all
between about 55 and 68 degrees for a few weeks, taste it and if it is
where you would like it, bottle it up and it can now go into the fridge
to continue fermenting.<br /> <br /> Happy Fermenting!<br /> Cindy</span></span><br />

Today is the day that I finally make marshmallows in anticipation of wrapping them in caramel tomorrow (and maybe rolling THAT yumminess in some toasted, chopped nuts). I adapted a few different recipes and threw in my own twist and love the recipe.<br />
<br />
<i><b>Marshmallows:</b></i><br />
<br />
2 envelopes powdered gelatin <br />
1/2 cup + 1/3 cup cold water<br />
1 cup sugar<br />
1/3 cup brown rice syrup<br />
6 large egg whites, at room temperature<br />
pinch of salt<br />
2 teaspoons vanilla extract <br />
<br />
<br />
<i><strong>Sprinkling Mix:</strong></i><br />
<br />
One cup arrowroot powder <br />
one cup powdered sugar<br />
<br />
<i><b>Directions:</b></i><br />
<br />
1. Put parchment in a large baking pan or cookie sheet and sprinkle with the sprinkling mix. Make sure you cover all of the bare spots. If you don't do this now, it might be hard later. It sets up quickly.<br />
<br />
2. In a small bowl, sprinkle the gelatin over 1/2 cup of
cold water to dissolve.<br />
<br />
3. In a small saucepan, mix the sugar
and brown rice syrup with 1/3 cup of water. Place over medium/high
heat. <br />
<br />
4. In the bowl of an electric mixer, pour in the egg whites and beat on low speed until frothy. Add a pinch of salt.<br />
<br />
5. When the syrup reaches about 210ºF , increase the mixer speed to high and beat the whites until they are thick and fluffy.<br />
<br />
6. When the syrup reaches 245ºF, slowly pour the hot syrup
into the whites. Keep the mixer on high and try to avoid pouring the hot mixture on the whisk
since the syrup will splatter and stick to the sides of the
bowl (like glue!)<br />
<br />
7. Put the gelatin and water into the warm pan that you used for the
syrup. There is enough heat left to liquify this and allow you to easily pour it into the mix.<br />
<br />
8. Add the vanilla extract and continue to beat on high until the outside of the bowl is completely cool (and the mixture looks white and fluffy.<br />
<br />
9. Use a spatula to spread the marshmallows in a layer on the pan. Allow to
set up for at least 4 hours, uncovered.<br />
<br />

<br />
Starting seeds and watching them turn into beautiful, early plants is one of my major hobbies. I begin getting spring fever around January usually and have to restrain myself not to begin too early. This year, due to several odd circumstances I found myself with time, energy and sunshine pretty early. This allowed me to start lots and lots of seeds. I had some really great help getting them started.<br />

<br />
I wanted to line out my philosophy and the steps I take to ensure that my seeds thrive all of the time. <br />
<br />
1) This is a temporary holding pen, not your garden. This is just a place to get seeds up and going. You are not building soil or doing long term things, just getting a head start on the season. I like to use trays and 9 packs that I get from Orchard Supply. They are pretty inexpensive and can be used several times. This gives me a consistent size of thing to move around. It helps.<br />
<br />
2) I usually buy potting soil. I know that I could probably make some, but it is pretty inexpensive. Remember, it is just a holding pen. This year I gathered some moss, cooked it in water on my wood stove, then left it to dry out. Then I crumbled it up and mixed it - about 1 part moss to 2 to 3 parts soil. I did this both to extend my potting soil and for moisture control. It worked pretty well.<br />
<br />
3) I use commercial fertilizer almost every time I water. Usually I spend about 15-20 dollars on a bottle of organic fertilizer and that will last me through this season. This tends to make the plants stocky and strong. There is just no good way for your soil in those little cells to last and produce great plants unless they are fed regularly. You could probably make some, but I don't.<br />
<br />
4) Only heirloom, GMO free seeds. These are the only ones you should even consider using. This has been covered before in this blog, so I won't hit it this time. While I was doing all of this seed starting, I was staying about 10 minutes from Baker Creek's Seed Bank. I may have overspent there.<br />
<br />
5) LABEL EVERYTHING! Spend a little money on labels that will last. These are white plastic ones and I mark them with a sharpie marker. You WON'T be sorry!<br />
<br />
6) I put the trays out all day, every day right from the beginning, whenever practical and possible. I bring them every night until the weather is steady. This is not something we like to forget. The reason I do this is to harden off the plants right from the get go. Otherwise what tends to happen is a great spring day comes along and you finally haul the trays of green plants out. A few hours later you go check on them and they are FRIED! I have done this many, many times. Either harden them off a little at a time or begin by taking them out before they even sprout.<br />
<br />
7) Overplanting early, then separating the plants into individual cells works really well for me. This allows me to have less trays to haul around early in the season. A lot of the time once I begin separating them, it is warm enough to leave them outside at night.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgbrF_pj-8MiKLWn0Cb48uLzB7tMm9RQCJjLRbY9mTJPEUx34j4MYIR81WTQVJWy5pImkytHgTgHIlGPfgJrI8WgYrw5Zyms2aJb51Q_K8CX3SPfENZuc3AzI1D298PUwqOEV_yI6HldTY/s1600/separating+seedlings.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgbrF_pj-8MiKLWn0Cb48uLzB7tMm9RQCJjLRbY9mTJPEUx34j4MYIR81WTQVJWy5pImkytHgTgHIlGPfgJrI8WgYrw5Zyms2aJb51Q_K8CX3SPfENZuc3AzI1D298PUwqOEV_yI6HldTY/s320/separating+seedlings.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
8) Once it begins to be warm and you are separating everything, you might need to water twice a day. A good watering can is invaluable.<br />
<br />
Follow these steps and you will have some beautiful plants, ready to go into the ground as soon as it is practical. Where we are, NOT before Mother's Day for the tomato, pepper and cuke seeds.<br />

If you got a winter garden in (which I did not) you probably have access to all kind of dark, leafy vegetables like kale, swiss chard, beet greens, turnip greens, cabbage, bok choy, mustard greens and dandelion greens. You probably also have root vegetables growing beautifully. Chives should be popping up from your onions and garlic (snip and use, they are wonderful) and the natural, local greens (some people call them weeds) should just be starting to look really good.<br />
<br />
Note: These beautiful greens came from a friend's garden. I plan to use them all today in a batch of fermented veggies I have going. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhbLxQKVEudCnjWjBxT3RkJSxsIoAF5ZmEUrsrzLeMPqtBb0nRyQJ6on0vQQBgU3TgAAlTOv5O53-DFZUQWkvFWZcB4qRg9x9YFSdXVJJzaEPj5rq4_I5CDDZXU27jnyYmI_KKMxuNpJY8/s1600/Greens.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhbLxQKVEudCnjWjBxT3RkJSxsIoAF5ZmEUrsrzLeMPqtBb0nRyQJ6on0vQQBgU3TgAAlTOv5O53-DFZUQWkvFWZcB4qRg9x9YFSdXVJJzaEPj5rq4_I5CDDZXU27jnyYmI_KKMxuNpJY8/s320/Greens.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Even if you do not have your own garden, this is a great time of year to purchase or trade for these nutritional powerhouses. The next questions is how to either use or preserve this goodness in the best way.<br />
<br />
There are so many recipes to try and ways to incorporate all of this. Right at this moment, I am deep into fermenting in a sauerkraut kind of way. The possibilities are endless and the health benefits non-stop. Making up a batch of fermented veggies and using them as a condiment adds much to your meals and your health. The colors, tastes and textures can all be adjusted to your what your family likes. <br />
<br />
You can turn this:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-_8I056VsCvo7tFH2tMzVPpXqFmV9szKTsD5Ul7uJNUPVNHlyd7Cn1G5I70Z9leq8t04t2uy-BOoRu-wWcU9PPYbjflAIOCbFNoeG0UILhR8y42t3LIv66KfzJmbBc5iPB-OC8VdX-9Y/s1600/Kraut+Ingredients.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-_8I056VsCvo7tFH2tMzVPpXqFmV9szKTsD5Ul7uJNUPVNHlyd7Cn1G5I70Z9leq8t04t2uy-BOoRu-wWcU9PPYbjflAIOCbFNoeG0UILhR8y42t3LIv66KfzJmbBc5iPB-OC8VdX-9Y/s320/Kraut+Ingredients.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
Into This:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgzEa086_QlQK6aFDSCqxiEwmH4JLjTglI3iBOxmTAlWYOWSrs5T_57hObxUk2NBF4tx5WC5akOyb1Pe1VQW95S7jg5R-FGNSROeiZ_wBojbrjLSAK4ufANgUVJPZ7o4uQtLgkJCQT02RY/s1600/Mixed+Greens+-+Root+Kraut.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgzEa086_QlQK6aFDSCqxiEwmH4JLjTglI3iBOxmTAlWYOWSrs5T_57hObxUk2NBF4tx5WC5akOyb1Pe1VQW95S7jg5R-FGNSROeiZ_wBojbrjLSAK4ufANgUVJPZ7o4uQtLgkJCQT02RY/s320/Mixed+Greens+-+Root+Kraut.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
or switch it up and get something like this:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizfAX4ztrSOMj5Z8O5tIyZHBFXbVuveFf_lOSk0pC-SLzhyphenhyphenRL2vsid4zNfrnYisQLWcol0SNrHoeYf24BIrPluIivMSrZYg-FbR8wNiKbIBgxrw5AaGef8slrN2DWHMGQbLSC_pp8-Nhg/s1600/Red+Cabbage+-+Beet+Kraut.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizfAX4ztrSOMj5Z8O5tIyZHBFXbVuveFf_lOSk0pC-SLzhyphenhyphenRL2vsid4zNfrnYisQLWcol0SNrHoeYf24BIrPluIivMSrZYg-FbR8wNiKbIBgxrw5AaGef8slrN2DWHMGQbLSC_pp8-Nhg/s320/Red+Cabbage+-+Beet+Kraut.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
And then, over time, it becomes something like this:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjf70llGO6GDTAaU7riG1HKKbrm8wPj46VSH6Ghan-L7XNrOOJysPHMtAVbGiGNVOQ-aCaFrh9tg-2iqxhBiVlFaiB0Nu6xARxV4TLCKlweIbMUzXb8WjkVz9Omte6yMWIKIpbUbJDauvg/s1600/Finished+Kraut.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjf70llGO6GDTAaU7riG1HKKbrm8wPj46VSH6Ghan-L7XNrOOJysPHMtAVbGiGNVOQ-aCaFrh9tg-2iqxhBiVlFaiB0Nu6xARxV4TLCKlweIbMUzXb8WjkVz9Omte6yMWIKIpbUbJDauvg/s320/Finished+Kraut.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
The basic steps are: Find great ingredients, wash, chop, salt, inoculate (optional), season (optional), wait, pack it into some container so you can keep it under liquid, put it into a quiet, cool place for a while - one to six weeks, bottle, keep cool. Once the pH level drops below 4.6, unfriendly bacteria just do not thrive. It is helpful if it can drop within 4 days of mixing it up.<br />
<br />
I always taste my sauerkraut "raw" (raw meaning as I am making it - technically, all of this is raw) It tastes NOTHING like finished kraut. The taste from the finished kraut comes from time and friendly bacteria. The more time, the more flavor. Don't like your kraut? Wait two weeks and try again. I sample over and over and over again so I understand as a cook what it tastes like at this stage. Although it is not the most pleasant part, I now have a good idea what it should taste like at this stage. When you are making a lot, it is helpful to know this.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEja0fErsgqPEf_pKHnb8aXhwmkM5uXP0t6an0oC5cX6ptPLGU39yQDeY901CdfuJ7a4W-5705OsoEX9Fr9hRMXPLNkVFvQHB8WtAEg8GyuevRnbPpgPrtFXtza6X8aD3rjIG0OJQxV5X0M/s1600/Crocks.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEja0fErsgqPEf_pKHnb8aXhwmkM5uXP0t6an0oC5cX6ptPLGU39yQDeY901CdfuJ7a4W-5705OsoEX9Fr9hRMXPLNkVFvQHB8WtAEg8GyuevRnbPpgPrtFXtza6X8aD3rjIG0OJQxV5X0M/s320/Crocks.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
What are some of the benefits?<br />
<br />
Now that, my friend, is another post. Stay tuned.<br />

It has been so long since I wrote a blog post, it just feels awkward. I guess there is no way to get past that than to just dive in. <i> </i></div>
<h2 style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; text-align: center;">
<i>Preserving the Harvest:</i></h2>
<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">
This week brought a large selection of roots and greens, much more than could be reasonably used fresh. It only makes sense to preserve them. The best way I know is to lacto-ferment these.</div>
<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8_zudLqpebr3HVtl8BK9mr-EbNiRT0EMWL3SO8HEzxlqQPWnDF2iKy8mLmc8JBLqgoY3y9KIgH5zZTx4eShVa9TCjyLCBZJP9ePUAgVXkmKGidGmVHOTCDVL35qbsMSPVpPN7ODQDHh4/s1600/005.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8_zudLqpebr3HVtl8BK9mr-EbNiRT0EMWL3SO8HEzxlqQPWnDF2iKy8mLmc8JBLqgoY3y9KIgH5zZTx4eShVa9TCjyLCBZJP9ePUAgVXkmKGidGmVHOTCDVL35qbsMSPVpPN7ODQDHh4/s320/005.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">
Spending a little time getting these beautiful things cultured has a dual purpose. First, preservation. Second, using a lacto fermented food as a condiment with your meal brings a host of benefits. This has been covered in many, many blogs. You might check a few of them out to find out the health benefits.</div>
<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">
It is really easy to get this going, although somewhat time consuming because almost everything had to be hand chopped. The steps basically are wash, dry, chop, mix, season, get the mixture under liquid and leave it alone for a few weeks. The ingredients for today's mixture ended up being:</div>
<br />
<div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: small;">Sauerkraut from my last batch as a starter</span> </div>
<div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif; text-align: center;">

<div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif; text-align: center;">
Cabbage - red and green</div>
<div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif; text-align: center;">
Mustard greens</div>

Just a personal note: In this world of no borders, odd diseases and unpleasant viruses taking up residence in our personal space... The type of lifestyle we finally settled on is still the best protection you can have. No matter the situation, a healthy gut and an active bionome is the best protection you can have.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="border-collapse: collapse; color: #222222; font-family: arial,sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">A great, great way to begin is to spend time on Donna Schwenk's <a href="http://www.culturedfoodlife.com/" target="_blank">blog.</a> Cultured Food Life is the name of her new book and she has done a great community service (IMHO) in educating so many people and giving a great starting point. Her book is available on her blog or any of the other myriad of ways we find it. Here is the <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Cultured-Food-Life-Delicious-Probiotic/dp/1401942822" target="_blank">Amazon link to Cultured Food Life.</a></span><br />
<span style="border-collapse: collapse; color: #222222; font-family: arial,sans-serif; font-size: 13px;"><br /></span>
<span style="border-collapse: collapse; color: #222222; font-family: arial,sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">And so... the rest is what I wrote about 18 months ago. I see no reason to change my opinion based on current events. There is one addition on the "Do Not" list about antibacterial products. I list it as number 1. Don't kill your warriors.</span><br />
<span style="border-collapse: collapse; color: #222222; font-family: arial,sans-serif; font-size: 13px;"><br /></span>
<br />
<h3 style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><b><i><span style="border-collapse: collapse; color: #222222; font-family: arial,sans-serif;">A SUMMARY OF WHAT WE HAVE LEARNED THUS FAR</span></i></b></span></h3>
<span style="border-collapse: collapse; color: #222222; font-family: arial,sans-serif; font-size: 13px;"><br /></span>
<span style="border-collapse: collapse; color: #222222; font-family: arial,sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">I just wanted to put a quick reference here on the top of my long-neglected blog. This is a summary of some of the things that we have explored together in this blog. Please remember, this is my OPINION (note IMHO - In My Humble Opinion really means everything on this blog) . Always do your own research, believe in something yourself - don't just take someone else's word for it. If you use the search feature, you can find a lot of research and recipes throughout this and many other blogs. This can give you information to make up your own mind..... but you should continue researching.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="border-collapse: collapse; color: #222222; font-family: arial,sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">Don't attempt to make too many changes at once unless you are in a crisis. Take your time. Don't throw your family under the bus. Keep rational with any changes. Include the kids in WHY you are changing. Have some fun - try a couple of new things. Try them again if they are good for you. Don't give up. </span><br />
<br />
<span style="border-collapse: collapse; color: #222222; font-family: arial,sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">Be healthy and well! </span><br />
<br />
<span style="border-collapse: collapse; color: #222222; font-family: arial,sans-serif; font-size: 13px;"><u><i><b>ADD THIS INTO YOUR LIFE:</b></i></u></span><br />
<ol>
<li style="margin-left: 15px;"> Eat a lot of good fats (coconut oil, olive oil, butter from pastured cows, cod liver oil, etc.) A <i>minimum </i>of 2 tablespoons per day.</li>
<li style="margin-left: 15px;">Drink raw milk from pastured cows if it is within the realm of possibility. Add raw cream to your coffee. A lot. Enjoy it thoroughly.</li>
<li style="margin-left: 15px;">Eat something lacto-fermented every day. Live sauerkraut is probably one of the most wonderful things you can do for your body long term. Kim Chee is awesome. Discover everything lacto-fermented. Make up something and give it a try.</li>
<li style="margin-left: 15px;"> Eat pastured eggs from a local source if it is within the realm of possibility. The yolks should be bright orange. Can you have chickens where you are? A backyard chicken coop is not a lot of work.</li>
<li style="margin-left: 15px;"> Drink something live with enzymes every day. (Kombucha tea, Kefir, Apple Cider Vinegar, Coconut Vinegar - something along those lines.)</li>
<li style="margin-left: 15px;">Eat grass fed protein (beef, chicken, pork)</li>
<li style="margin-left: 15px;">Soak all grains, nuts and beans. This means sourdough bread and soaking and drying nuts. Beans, rice and lentils, of course, should be soaked with a bit of whey or apple cider vinegar and the water drained off before cooking. Do you have a crock pot? Do you cook much? Most of this is not hard and you do it ahead of time. I do a lot on weekends and coast through overfull weeks. Make soaked granola. Have fun!</li>
<li style="margin-left: 15px;">Eat cultured and organic milk products (yogurt, sour cream, cream cheese). Add kefir in some form to your diet EVERY DAY. There are so many good and easy recipes.</li>
<li style="margin-left: 15px;">Make bone broth. Have some several times a week. Cook beans or rice or soup in it or drink it like a tea. Dirt cheap and easy.</li>
<li style="margin-left: 15px;">Exercise 20 minutes per day. Frankly, yoga and pilates with some aerobics and weight training are almost the best thing for long term. Honestly, "The Biggest Loser" has some of the best workout DVD's for at home that I have found. $9 at Wal Mart.</li>
<li style="margin-left: 15px;">Find a holistic doctor or chiropractor if it is possible. The way we often practice medicine is criminal (IMHO). Will not rant here. :)</li>
<li style="margin-left: 15px;">Go organic. Go local. Go fresh. Fruits, vegetables, everything. There is a host of reasons outside of the chemical thing.</li>
<li style="margin-left: 15px;">Take a good, food based multi-vitamin that is in powder or liquid form. Don't waste your money on pills that are shaped up with binders and fillers. Most of it just goes right through you. We use "All-One" Senior formula. We take it in the morning with a little Kombucha tea and juice. There are other really wonderful choices.</li>
</ol>
<br />
<u><i><b>REMOVE THIS FROM YOUR LIFE:</b></i></u><br />
<ol>
</li>
<li style="margin-left: 15px;"> Anything made from GMO's. They are evil beyond belief (IMHO). It is best to not put stuff into your body that might cause problems. You have a "bad blast" and your gut can be ruined. Just sayin' </li>
<li style="margin-left: 15px;">ANYTHING that has soy in it. Men should NEVER EVER EVER EVER drink soy milk or eat soy. It messes with your manhood. Women pregnant with boys should NEVER include soy in their diet. Boy babies should NEVER drink formula made from soy (almost the only thing available) The ONLY exception is a properly lacto-fermented soy sauce, in moderation.</li>
<li style="margin-left: 15px;">Anything hydrogenated, fractionated, or something you cannot pronounce. Read all labels. This basically eliminates about 80% of processed foods (which are dead and rob your body of life anyway)</li>
</li>
<li style="margin-left: 15px;">Any milk product that has been homogenized. A gentle pasteurization is ...... ok..... but raw-non homogenized is better. If it is homogenized, treat it like something nasty.</li>
<li style="margin-left: 15px;">Avoid like the plague anything that has High Fructose Corn Syrup in it. It also goes by hfcs now. Don't touch the stuff. It is nasty for your liver and your insides and almost impossible to eliminate.<br />
</li>
</ol>
There, see. That is not so bad. Just do all of that and get back to me in 10 years. You will have tons of energy, feel great and look better than you did at 20.<br />

<br />
I realized that the last post (which has been on top for a while now) is on CANDY MAKING. Yikes. Christmas is over. Back to the real world. (well, I might make up a batch of caramel sometime soon). What we are doing around here right now is:<br />
<br />
1. Getting ready to watch (again) an amazing movie. We plan to watch it at church with a bunch of avid gardeners, hobby farmers, novice growers and everything in between. A potluck and an afternoon centered around growing stuff successfully. What could be better than that? We have watched it free on line, but finally broke down and ordered the video. <br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://backtoedenfilm.com/">Back to Eden</a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFxqjZgxXFuGvPGiKK1L3MRzOQFnbnJsTic_65Roo-oE7m88MTceUVYuB7tfn3kwQHSPSHIaURYWDrwt5G3iLI7ttt1RAFQOZWs0j1b5TkCQIed53k78X-bdvchzk40TBwsKMkTk1qKBI/s1600/dvd.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFxqjZgxXFuGvPGiKK1L3MRzOQFnbnJsTic_65Roo-oE7m88MTceUVYuB7tfn3kwQHSPSHIaURYWDrwt5G3iLI7ttt1RAFQOZWs0j1b5TkCQIed53k78X-bdvchzk40TBwsKMkTk1qKBI/s200/dvd.jpg" width="141" /></a></div><div style="text-align: left;">2. In addition, I have been reading some books on permaculture and we are trying to plan out how to make our entire property a lot more efficient and work better. The book I am currently reading is "Permaculture by Sepp Holzer.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.amazon.com/Sepp-Holzers-Permaculture-Small-Scale-Gardening/dp/160358370X">Sepp Holzer's Permaculture</a> </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDbEsW_MqoRw7BBq_NsVap-DDuy7iQ60519X1vNs3cKaM1_5GVnZQTdheyuAu5at8W27EJPvj1ZDxXARO8JFrOSVM5hqZy0LajYc3mChYz5X6gDVdBZAlZ4kYyhwL5xoI4dgCfDPg7MPg/s1600/permaculture.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDbEsW_MqoRw7BBq_NsVap-DDuy7iQ60519X1vNs3cKaM1_5GVnZQTdheyuAu5at8W27EJPvj1ZDxXARO8JFrOSVM5hqZy0LajYc3mChYz5X6gDVdBZAlZ4kYyhwL5xoI4dgCfDPg7MPg/s200/permaculture.jpg" width="200" /></a></div><div style="text-align: left;">3. Also, on the subject of health, I have two books going right now. Deep Nutrition and Devil in the Milk. Both are awesome and full of information. Deep Nutrition is a great book if you are just beginning the process of trying to learn a different way of eating and why you should do that. Devil in the Milk is about A-1 and A-2 cows and the types of milk they produce. By accident (?) we appear to have cows which produce A-2 milk. </div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://thegardenisland.com/lifestyles/article_53919669-932b-5bab-a155-7796b8dc35d5.html">Meet the authors of Deep Nutrition</a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div style="text-align: left;">And finally, I am starting seeds. Yep, it is that time of year. I have a ton of seeds from my favorite seed bank ever and am trying to restrain my hand from too many tomato plants. Again.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />

(recipe after much rambling)</div><br />
Hello all, my long lost blogging friends. You might wonder where I have been, and it is a simple story. Just about a year ago, we began putting into place a series of changes that moved us into a more simple, more homebound life. We have tried to move off the grid wherever practical (and sometimes where it is not practical). We purchased a milk cow named Bonnie. We put in an extra-large garden and tried to grow some of our animal feed.<br />
<br />
Now I don't want to shock anyone, but these type of changes are a lot of W-O-R-K. Modern conveniences are named that for a reason. Processed, industrialized food is inexpensive and easy. Having a milk cow means someone has to be there to milk twice a day.... every day..... 7 days a week.... you get the picture. Anyway, our time seems to have become redirected.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFJmz3ANSrck7u1wHrdhXuFg9U_TCFyDa3o7NEcTTNpatgJhoAzuj4GXmFfdj1nMXhORL_X2KUwPZbtIAd-AtyxsLwGSAW68St6bs7G8E41VfuzKtPYcW-3CXOCfpqySfp3S0Yx8LoZJ8/s1600/Obadiah+and+cow.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFJmz3ANSrck7u1wHrdhXuFg9U_TCFyDa3o7NEcTTNpatgJhoAzuj4GXmFfdj1nMXhORL_X2KUwPZbtIAd-AtyxsLwGSAW68St6bs7G8E41VfuzKtPYcW-3CXOCfpqySfp3S0Yx8LoZJ8/s320/Obadiah+and+cow.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>At this time we are drying the cow up. This means just one milking a day, not on any schedule. The garden is put to bed and I never did get a winter garden in, with the exception of our small cold frame. It feels like we have redeemed an amazing amount of time and freedom. I do not want to say this is good, I really miss the fresh produce and as soon as the cow is done, I know I will miss that wonderful milk. But for the moment, it is less hectic..... somewhat.<br />
<br />
For this winter I am planning to read a wonderful book called <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Deep-Nutrition-Your-Genes-Traditional/dp/0615228380"><i>Deep Nutrition</i></a>. We just finished a movie on-line called <a href="http://www.backtoedenfilm.com/"><i>Back to Eden</i></a>. I think we will implement some of these changes into our garden. I would recommend it to anyone wanting to garden in a real way. We also watched a movie called <a href="http://www.burzynskimovie.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=110"><i>Burzynski</i></a>. It is a wonderfully revealing movie on the incestuous relationship between big Pharma and regulatory agencies. It is worth watching, no matter what you think of Dr. Burzynski. We are still in the research phase to see if his remedy is effective. The same tactics are currently being used on our food supply (especially raw milk). Protectionism is alive and well in the United States of America.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggVK8zAfHj5VWVNG4IsHoIpfP2wzGbJkQ2dkEee5pA7LkzKXgIggcDEGJVyKHd4LYjsM5r_gRJqTo81wOr42jUTZiqNpyDmU7VARe_4vCwAW5MasGfkjZhZ9LlVX95xyT269c8445WAqE/s1600/Chicken+coop.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggVK8zAfHj5VWVNG4IsHoIpfP2wzGbJkQ2dkEee5pA7LkzKXgIggcDEGJVyKHd4LYjsM5r_gRJqTo81wOr42jUTZiqNpyDmU7VARe_4vCwAW5MasGfkjZhZ9LlVX95xyT269c8445WAqE/s320/Chicken+coop.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>We mainly planted greens in the cold frame, but the boys made a cool "chicken tractor" which would fit in there. The chickens keep the cold frame pretty warm. We will also use it this winter for newly hatched chicks and a mama. So, we continue to eat simple, wholesome, organic meals. Soaked grains are a part of life. Root vegetables are big in our diet, add a lot of greens whenever you can..... and now it is almost time to begin making candy for Christmas :)<br />
<br />
My sister, the shopping queen, found us an amazing stove that is waiting to be installed when time permits this winter. It is in the picture. It is a Wedgewood stove from 1935 and is in almost pristine condition. It has both wood and gas burners. I am not even going to tell you what price she found it for. No need to excite envy and jealousy. It is a beauty, isn't it.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKasU-_Cj4denGmgfJqgScbtx2UmaT1ZETfbL5OQfD99Hrkyj4PuIygdCv8VcHW64-kPMIiii-jZU0X3jRYXFKn4kXuu2yOcfweE-8r526-7gJOpumPX4h-Z1FNQ9mKeqDqM-L2lwLbfY/s1600/040.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKasU-_Cj4denGmgfJqgScbtx2UmaT1ZETfbL5OQfD99Hrkyj4PuIygdCv8VcHW64-kPMIiii-jZU0X3jRYXFKn4kXuu2yOcfweE-8r526-7gJOpumPX4h-Z1FNQ9mKeqDqM-L2lwLbfY/s320/040.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><br />
I wanted to get the recipe for lacto-fermented salsa up, even though the garden is put to bed. Next summer will probably roll around, and then it will be here. This bunch of produce is one of the last batches we picked before the cold weather rolled in. Enjoy<br />
<br />

<br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;"><i><b>Lacto Fermented Salsa</b></i></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Whey (about 1 TBSP per quart of finished product)</div><div style="text-align: center;">Tomatoes</div><div style="text-align: center;">(I prefer a variety of colors - they are all different acid levels and each brings something different to the party)</div><div style="text-align: center;">Tomatillos</div><div style="text-align: center;">Hot peppers</div><div style="text-align: center;">Sweet peppers</div><div style="text-align: center;">Cucumbers</div><div style="text-align: center;">(leave the skins on - I try to find some with bitterness to them - good balance)</div><div style="text-align: center;">Onion</div><div style="text-align: center;">Garlic</div><div style="text-align: center;">Lime juice and lime zest</div><div style="text-align: center;">Fresh Cilantro</div><div style="text-align: center;">Sea Salt</div><div style="text-align: center;">Pepper</div><div style="text-align: center;">Cumin</div><div style="text-align: center;">Cayenne, if necessary</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><br />
Directions: I use a cast iron skillet to roast the peppers and tomatillos. If your hands have hot pepper on them, a few drops of bleach will neutralize it and you don't have to worry about touching your eyes for the next 10 hours. After roasting, I use a food processor to get it chunked up. Just use blasts, don't blend it. You want chunks. After everything is blended, add the chopped Cilantro, lime juice, lime zest and spices.<br />
<b><u><i>Taste often.</i></u></b><br />
<br />
You will notice that I do not have amounts. Taste often. Don't forget the whey. If it lasts, you should leave it at room temperature for a couple of hours to allow the salt and whey time to innoculate your salsa. Bottle and refrigerate.<br />
<br />
Enjoy<br />

There have been many, many changes around our place. One of the biggest is our major steps to get off of the grid. We have been trying to simplify, declutter and doing our best to live a different way. It has been challenging, two steps forward, one step back, intermediate steps, rethinking........ Anyway, it has been fun. A lot of work..... but fun. Our life has changed to very quiet, simple homebound routines. Some of our upcoming projects include a root cellar, ice house and spring house.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div>As part of that process, we have gotten more serious about our garden. In the early spring, we dug trenches with the help of the backhoe and put manure in, then refilled. It broke up some hardpan, stirred around our minerals and really improved our soil.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi67KdRzmK9H9HJ9tlKyKZghd0AjAJumkYCpJLp0IqxFDfJ9IG52njifXGRAdA7CT79yiGXClLPZ8c2HZRnOFwuUonUlb8sjboAHEpMdefQI7yEekAx0fcq0QYVIVBD6NZr0d1PK4ljKNg/s1600/070.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi67KdRzmK9H9HJ9tlKyKZghd0AjAJumkYCpJLp0IqxFDfJ9IG52njifXGRAdA7CT79yiGXClLPZ8c2HZRnOFwuUonUlb8sjboAHEpMdefQI7yEekAx0fcq0QYVIVBD6NZr0d1PK4ljKNg/s200/070.JPG" width="150" /></a></div><br />

Every plant was put in carefully with consideration of "root room". We wanted to give every plant plenty of room to thrive. This meant that we placed the tomato plants 4' on center. It was hard for me. I was limited to 50 plants...... OK, I might have snuck a couple extra in. I also gave room to the squash, cukes, melons, peppers - everything got enough root room. We didn't have enough material for all of the tomatoes, but hopefully by next year we will. I will use fencepost and wires for the rest of the plants.<br />
<br />
We have been harvesting raspberries, beets (they are yummy just rinsed, rubbed with oil and salt and baked) greens of every type, tomatoes (from the coldframe) squash, kohlrabi, turnips, parsnips, radish, peas and we are just beginning to get cucumbers. Our meals are simple and revolve around soaked grains, greens, eggs, milk, garden produce, our own chickens, grass fed beef and raw cheese.<br />

My sister continues to turn chicks out of her ever revolving incubator. The roosters we butcher, the hens we either keep or move on to someone else. We have lots of chickens. We used the broody hens and chicks to keep the coldframe warm this winter.... that is why we have early tomatoes. I'll be working a lot harder on the coldframe w/chicken heat this winter.<br />
<br />
The Spring and Summer have been filled with hard work, family, new experiences, adjustments, and the Hand of the Lord always giving us guidance. I can say again today that He has NEVER left us.... NEVER forsaken us. We can depend on His mercy, His abundance and His grace.<br />
<br />
Be blessed, healthy and well<br />

There is quite a bit you can be doing to get ready for garden season. I have already written about why I garden and you can find that post <a href="http://astepofhealth.blogspot.com/2010/03/why-i-garden.html">here</a>. If you intend to get a garden going this year, here are some things you can do now to make sure that happens.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjngofbzTvBX3V7s_60bJ_1Sm2FSLBvWmv9JRSvasAAzpy_RDRbg5CwlE92jBgMv1KTqAKoQdTD5Elin1uLF9p76_YRP43-XyfDjg8UbDZnWnZ6ONjqeBYwp_zjtfs4jUu2GMbNc-hr7uw/s1600/07-20-10+031.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjngofbzTvBX3V7s_60bJ_1Sm2FSLBvWmv9JRSvasAAzpy_RDRbg5CwlE92jBgMv1KTqAKoQdTD5Elin1uLF9p76_YRP43-XyfDjg8UbDZnWnZ6ONjqeBYwp_zjtfs4jUu2GMbNc-hr7uw/s200/07-20-10+031.jpg" width="150" /></a>Begin a garden journal/devotional. Just having one place where you are jotting down your thoughts, scriptures, poems, recipes and ideas is helpful. It is good to get your thoughts in order. This is also a great time to read a new (or old) book on gardening. Try the thrift store :)<br />
<br />
Plan your space. Make this a family affair. Figure out how much room you are committing to gardening, what needs to be done and where you intend to plant everything. Planning is key to a productive garden. We like to measure everything and lay it out on paper.<br />
<br />
Decide what you intend to plant and order seeds. I use <a href="http://rareseeds.com/ordering-info">Baker Creek Seeds</a> - they have an awesome selection and test for GMO's.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhjH4wZu40SlgdqDVslTk8-vojJglfI99C4jEmdy7BfnRn6C2mQvkLv1hJ5IiOEvtqm_3DFvmDOXm7zrFHHs29llvaC_6yASKpvsrGmgkKyzA5309Bhs-A5aiMUGysxQaO-XH3U0tUGz8U/s1600/031.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhjH4wZu40SlgdqDVslTk8-vojJglfI99C4jEmdy7BfnRn6C2mQvkLv1hJ5IiOEvtqm_3DFvmDOXm7zrFHHs29llvaC_6yASKpvsrGmgkKyzA5309Bhs-A5aiMUGysxQaO-XH3U0tUGz8U/s200/031.JPG" width="200" /></a>If you intend to start seeds, this is the time to do it. You do not have to have a perfect environment. You need a warm place, and after the seedlings have popped up, you need to haul them to some sunshine whenever possible. Water them and let the water drain. Add some kind of natural food to your water. The seedlings burn through the available nutrients pretty quickly. We usually begin tomato, sweet and hot pepper plants, broccoli, brussel sprouts and swiss chard inside. The other stuff gets direct sowed when the soil is warm enough.<br />
<br />
If you need to build boxes, fix fences or acquire pots to plant in, this is the time to work on it. Often you can find someone who has changed their garden plan and will trade, barter, buy or give you old containers. Use some of your soil and mix in something good - well rotted compost, some purchased topsoil.... something full of nutrients. Make sure your pots will drain well and are big enough for the root systems of your plants.<br />
<br />
Begin or plan a compost pile. You don't have to be fancy. Find a spot, mix equal parts brown, green and hot (leaves, sawdust, straw, kitchen scraps, manure, urine) and mix occasionally. You can build a round container out of old fencing or you can use old pallets or you can go with something that spins, turns and works your stuff. The more you work it, the hotter it gets. Here are some great links to Organic Gardening.... as far as I am concerned, they are the king of compost :) You can probably find lots and lots of other articles on compost, these are just three random ones.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.organicgardening.com/learn-and-grow/fast-cooking-compost-pile">Fast Cooking Compost Pile</a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.organicgardening.com/learn-and-grow/compost-ingredients">Compost Ingredients</a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.organicgardening.com/learn-and-grow/safe-compost-bin">Safe Compost Bins</a></div><br />
Plan to begin a spring garden as soon as you are able to work the soil. Lettuce, spinach, onions, potatoes, swiss chard, broccoli, brussel sprouts and peas are part of our spring garden plan. I can't wait!<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdG-0njpwrcSYJJ1js-2tFrSu0sLU4u-Hxz_b6KIjowwu_Nazwfnqs3jtmebIiGbZ4h0LJAx-0DlmXzVZtZa88MRWp0ynPrrzNgsErDC_f6FUmAWaV8UR9lbgLhZwD5Y9zXriot_m4vLs/s1600/07-20-10+032.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdG-0njpwrcSYJJ1js-2tFrSu0sLU4u-Hxz_b6KIjowwu_Nazwfnqs3jtmebIiGbZ4h0LJAx-0DlmXzVZtZa88MRWp0ynPrrzNgsErDC_f6FUmAWaV8UR9lbgLhZwD5Y9zXriot_m4vLs/s200/07-20-10+032.jpg" width="200" /></a>Do you need to clean up your garden site from last year? Take a couple of the nice days that always happen in the middle of winter and clean it up. While you are at it, take a look at your tools and see if you need to replace, repair, sharpen or rethink them. Make sure you have a somewhat organized place for your tools. Always searching for a tool is a huge waste of time.<br />
<br />
Talk over with your family the amount of resource you plan to use. Include time, water, money, physical labor and space. Reassess what you did last year. Do you need to do something different? Be open to suggestions from family members. Step up the chores for the kids and move them up the chore ladder. A garden is an amazing way to spend great family time.<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiY6rv_PLb0wk3k9Lwim7hG65rcbUOKRk2ULYt1nngAcOW7u7CW_Zw2iaiIlGYyCGPwYdHuWfO1lTQDcJr97Ph4IMUVDotQeBRbfzMKTvgsNzgiOeiTkKGFTR9sO77xwJ3Ooe-YARHejWk/s1600/07-20-10+015.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiY6rv_PLb0wk3k9Lwim7hG65rcbUOKRk2ULYt1nngAcOW7u7CW_Zw2iaiIlGYyCGPwYdHuWfO1lTQDcJr97Ph4IMUVDotQeBRbfzMKTvgsNzgiOeiTkKGFTR9sO77xwJ3Ooe-YARHejWk/s200/07-20-10+015.jpg" width="200" /></a><br />
I would love to hear your garden plans. Ours are firmly in place and moving on. It might seem odd to be full steam ahead on your garden when there is still a significant amount of snow on the ground, but if you do not have a plan, your odds of being successful are much smaller. It is time to start.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Happy Gardening<br />

Commodity prices have been steadily rising for months and have really shot up recently. This is for multiple reasons - manmade and natural disasters, unrest in the world, too many people living off of the "system" and not putting into it, too much borrowing and not enough saving, terrible political decisions in multiple countries... the list goes on and on.<br />
<br />
It is not helpful to live in the spirit of fear that is permeating our world. One of my favorite scriptures is in 2Timothy 1:7...... <i>For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.</i> <b>BE ADVISED</b> it is the better part of wisdom to look ahead and make wise decisions for your family..... not in a spirit of fear, but in a useful, responsible way.<br />
<br />
No matter where you live or what you do, you can make your situation more stable. Proverbs has a lot of wisdom concerning living in wisdom or in folly. If you have not read through Proverbs lately, you should. Just look at today's date and read that Proverb. Here are a few samples.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><i>A wise </i><i>man fears and departs from evil, <br />
But a fool rages and is self-confident. </i></div><div style="text-align: center;"><i>Proverbs 14:16</i></div><div style="text-align: center;"></div><div style="text-align: center;"><i>Every prudent </i><i>man acts with knowledge, <br />
But a fool lays open </i><i>his folly. </i></div><div style="text-align: center;"><i>Proverbs 13:16 </i></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjeVGbAq92Yc1QnHm4OLdeDW3VvFgWK7BurL6bXFE-44jbe_0G1qhVyk9AWwdqFwiZvX0wmqCwI25XEz7tBfegomAj5UxnMrFnw63Mp0Mhdg92CJ9lBQ-TKG0VNUQr8V2LmHrHwbn0bgvM/s1600/IMG_1272.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjeVGbAq92Yc1QnHm4OLdeDW3VvFgWK7BurL6bXFE-44jbe_0G1qhVyk9AWwdqFwiZvX0wmqCwI25XEz7tBfegomAj5UxnMrFnw63Mp0Mhdg92CJ9lBQ-TKG0VNUQr8V2LmHrHwbn0bgvM/s200/IMG_1272.JPG" width="200" /></a></div>No matter where you live, you should look around and see what local resources are at hand..... then learn to use them. This is wisdom, not fear. When you learn in a non-emergency situation it is a lot easier. Add knowledge and skill one layer at a time so no one is overwhelmed. If I had tried to feed my family sourdough bread baked on the wood stove 3-4 years ago no one would have eaten it..... including me. I probably would never have attempted a full on farmer's breakfast on the stove, but now it is very possible. We have changed over time.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;"><a href="http://animoto.com/play/8nY3ftfiskEaXFYmqibfxw">Life on the Farm - Sights from our past few weeks</a></span></div><br />
I have already posted this <a href="http://animoto.com/play/8nY3ftfiskEaXFYmqibfxw">video</a>, but am posting it again with a caveat from my sister. She said the pictures make everything look easier, cleaner and faster than it really happened. We have just made one step after the other after the other. Each person works within their strengths..... or develops new strengths. For example, my hubby had a milk cow when he was younger. Bonnie would much prefer him to milk her and gives the most milk to him. This is not practical for us. I have had to learn to milk, and my sister is next. It doesn't matter what is the easiest, this is a new skill we must develop. </div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">Ask yourself these questions....</div><ul><li>Does my family produce more than they consume?</li>
<li>Is the bulk of my food local and sustainable?</li>
<li>If it is not, do I have an ample supply on hand for an emergency situation?</li>
<li>Can I slowly change the way my family eats, lives, cooks and plays to be more sustainable?</li>
<li>Do I know how to produce food and energy for my family?</li>
<li>Do I have a skill, knowledge or resource that I can barter with?</li>
<li>Can I convert grass into protein? </li>
<li>Do you know how to garden? </li>
<li>If you have a garden.... do you use heirloom seeds?</li>
<li>Do you know how to properly save and reuse your seeds?</li>
</ul><div style="text-align: left;"></div><div style="text-align: left;"></div><div style="text-align: left;"><i>A side note.... <a href="http://rareseeds.com/ordering-info">Baker Creek Seeds</a> is my favorite non GMO, heirloom seed company. We plan to add a section of garden for the animals this year.</i> <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjo1W8iO5sc5wA9T2q0ffFu-2rM5Ibk_xUhY7cNmoF1P_UuxBJ0vn5E-JVpfjQrThTBcziQC5vllt2A4NeTrHPIAt3D2WpqdPQS5BpOCM401TkttDzwCvSU-wEQ0OT6Ul64CSgWfviV08Y/s1600/007.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjo1W8iO5sc5wA9T2q0ffFu-2rM5Ibk_xUhY7cNmoF1P_UuxBJ0vn5E-JVpfjQrThTBcziQC5vllt2A4NeTrHPIAt3D2WpqdPQS5BpOCM401TkttDzwCvSU-wEQ0OT6Ul64CSgWfviV08Y/s200/007.JPG" width="200" /></a></div><br />
Questions like these help you think ahead in a non-emergency situation. When a power outage or other disruption occurs, use the opportunity to practice some of your skills. Do you have to run to the store regularly? Rethink that. Then when the next disruption occurs, try again. Instead of complaining, figure it out. Do laws need to be changed so you can have a wood stove in an area RICH with firewood? How about backyard chickens? Do zoning laws need to change? What has to happen so you can live more sustainably?</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">Living a simple life brings a peace that is beyond wonderful. We are not quite there yet, but we persevere. Stay close to God, eat local and fresh, be prepared, be a good neighbor, learn to function closer to where you live. Be content.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />

<br />
We have had a lot of changes around here since I last posted. Our daughter and son in law moved back to the Bay Area. It is bittersweet. The sweet - he got a wonderful job. The bitter, they moved away. It involved a lot of change for all of us since our daughter had become the teacher for our youngest and they both helped so much around here. Also, they had the nerve to take one of my grandbabies out of the county. I thought there was a rule against that! <br />

This was so, so sad. However, as a small community, we decided it was time to bite the bullet and purchase our own milk cow. We would turn our own grass and clover into milk! We purchased Bonnie the cow and Bessie her calf. We got a good deal because she was difficult to milk and the calf was still on her at three months. She is a beautiful 3/4 mini jersey and 1/4 dexter and they were not kidding about being difficult to milk :)<br />
<br />
We pressed on. At the beginning it took three adults, a kick bar and a lot of patience to get her milked. Then down to two adults and someone on poop patrol (we have someone catch her poop in a snow shovel if she lifts her tail). Now one person can milk her. We still have the poop patrol, but she often does not poop while being milked. We started out using Bag Balm on her teats, then read the label. Petroleum based. Bad bad bad bad. We are trying out the Burt's Bees Farmer's Friend Hand Salve. It appears to be working really well. We are happy and blessed.<br />

It has a concrete floor, a washout, lights..... then my sister spotted an old sink at my aunt's house and talked her out of it. Her hubby went and fetched it and installed it. Then we traded a neighbor for some of their excess hay. The three younger kids (from both families) picked up some extra daily chores. Our oldest son came and cut down some unproductive fruit trees to begin the process of making a better pasture and we are good to go! Everyone has worked together in their own strengths. We are now being rewarded by about 3 quarts of milk at each milking. It is only a little disheartening that the milking barn is cleaner than my kitchen. This is thanks to Farmer Joe who sweeps, washes out with vinegar water and squeegees after each milking. <br />

We are wondering if we will break our previous record of 10 days. I worked hard on baking sourdough bread on the stovetop. It turned out great! Also during that time we lost our water and the boys had to snowshoe up to fix it. All in all, a very grand adventure. (Note, the power is back on - we were only out 7 days - we're getting ready to be hit by another storm later this week). I have to say the Ipad, Iphone, Itouch and Laptop were helpful. The Kindle program loaded up with books was awesome. You can sit in the dark and read for several hours. When we turn the generator on, we recharge everything. It worked really well.<br />

A massive amount of water came down and wiped out a part of our road. The guys drove the backhoe out and helped the local water company do some repairs. Being a part of a community is good.<br />

I have to say, I love simple farm life. There have been big adjustments, but they are good. While we were out of power it was even better. It is wonderful to always have fresh milk. A simpler way of life makes power outages a little easier to handle.<br />
